saves time, stamps and check writing... do you use it or are you old-fashion. Took me a while to get with it but it's the only way to go for me.

I love my bill pay. I can even set up checks for gardners, property managers, etc - companies that aren't in their "system". Just put in name, address, etc, and the bank generates and mails out a check to whoever I have set up. I agree - I love it...

Can't remember the last time that I wrote a check. Have automatic pay on all my regular bills and use a debit card for others. I have one Credit Card in case of emergencies but never keep a balance on it. I'll use the Credit Card once a month on a small purchase and then pay it off before the due date.

Not only do I use the bill pay function on online banking, but the company I work for has Electronic Bill Pay Presentment (EBPP) as one of its many payments capabilities (along with credit card payment switching, ATM-driving, online and mobile banking, wire transfer, major back office functionality, and fraud detection and management).

.-.
I went from picking up my paper check from the job, going to their bank to cash it... going to the post office to buy and write out 6 money orders/stamps, mailing 7-10 days before due date.

Then I got into direct deposit and going to each company website to pay them electronically.

about 9 months ago I went into my bank to close an account... they asked do you do bill pay, I said yeah I do (so I thought... going to each company site isn't bill pay as I thought). Lady said if you make direct deposits of 1500.00 a month into your acct we'll give you $10.00 and if you pay TWO bills thru bill pay we'll give you another $10.00.

I said I do both anyways... sign me up! After two months of getting only 10.00 I was about to storm into the bank and demand my 2 payments of 10.00. Well the night before I was to go I went to the bank website to get my facts in order and there I saw it, a Bill Pay tab.... ohhhhhhh that's how it work (and after some Google research). Saved myself some embarassment!

love it but I haven't done the bill pay "to an individual" yet... was kind of scared cause they always ask for an account number when you set up but according to Myers (oooops, Eric) it just the same as the big corporations

(Wow... paragraphs)

Sound TGTBT. What bank is it?

Sounds very much like what I have, from Santander. I get $20/month much the same way.
pretty good deal... only have to do TWO bills via bill pay but I do ALL of mine via bill pay

Because I travel a lot and often out of the country I receive almost zero mailed bills - everything is on-line. And I have a Fidelity bank account that receives most of my bills automatically - I do not use automatic payment because I like to review each bill before paying. I do occasionally write paper checks but almost entirely when paying in person locally.

I don't do auto-pay and I like to see my bills as well, great reminder. I'll never do paperless or auto-pay

Tony Kornheiser (ESPN 980 Washington D.C., and the PTI sports talk show on the ESPN network) does not use any kind of electronic bill pay. Nor does he do any on-line banking. Besides the fact that he does not know how to, he is scared to death to put any of his money out there on the www.

He's comfortable with paying cash (he does not use credit cards) when he goes shopping, and writing hard checks to pay bills. His co-workers at the station have tried to get him to try bill pay, but he refuses.
In case you're wondering....yes, I am a little. I have been for years.

I've been using bill pay through my bank for over 20 years. I've got a brother who was a lot like Kornheiser to finally try it. Now he loves it, and would not dream of going back to the old way of paying bills.

oh... he's almost 70 yrs old (not knocking thos who are 70 and dont use it) so he's old "old school"

99% of my bills are paid using bill pay on-line. It says time and money and is definitely the way to go.

If you're talking about BOA's bill pay, I like it a lot, but here's one concern - they mark your check cleared, and take the money out of your account the day the check was to be delivered. On more than one occasion, I assumed the check had arrived, and been cashed, but it hadn't.

A couple of years ago I ran out of oil, and didn't get an auto delivery due to none payment. It was the middle of winter, and my pipes damn near froze. Sure, I got a couple warnings calls, but I checked my account online, and believed the check had been cashed. I called the oil company more than once, telling them the problem was on their end. Nope.

This has happened with more than one check I've sent. Not sure if this is still their policy. If it is, it sucks.

I remember when the banks wanted to charge you $3.00-$5.00 for a money order/bank check... now they do all of this for FREE, and even pay you to use the service! :D

Same thing happened to me, but it wasn't because the check had not been delivered. The oil company(Wesson) had deposited my payment into the wrong account.

I've been doing on line banking for more than 10 years. I haven't received or paid a paper bill in years. I simply go to the billing company's web site and pay on line with a Visa check card. I get an immediate payment confirmation by e-mail and the payment typically shows up on my bank site within a couple of hours. I have never had a problem (missed payment, late payment etc.).

DC - I'm over 70. It ain't the age, it's the attitude.

love the attitude BUT you know thats not "bill pay"... ? I thought it was until I did a lil more digging. I was one step away from "Bill Pay".

I didn't know bill pay existed I had to look it up. I simply posted a simple way to pay bills w/o changing your bank.

I kind of do a combination of old and new.
Still get paper bills just so I have the charges in print. I do have bill pay set up with my bank. For most recurring bills I get the paper bill, go onto my bank online, to bill pay, and put in amount and date to be paid. Simple. I can pay when I get the bill, but not have the payment made until the date I select. Easier to use the bank than each company's site and fewer passwords to remember.
I do have the utilities on auto-pay through the companies so they are always paid even if I am ill, etc. I avoid that for the others so they don't have access to my account!

maybe your bank does bill pay... this would help you to not change web addresses in your browser for each bill you want to pay.

no more (I thought this was bill pay)
www.waterbill.org
www.carpayment.net
www.lightcompany.gov
www.doctorcopay.med
www.visaormastercard.net
www.cellphonebill.net

all these are under www.mybankbillpaysystem.yes... and you can set them up for auto pay. just make sure your income is directly deposited into this acct.

yup that's now it work... love it

I love bill pay. The first time I used it was to pay a local businessman so this meant generating a check by the credit union and their mailing it out. For reasons I am not certain of, this is less expensive for the credit union than for them to process a check I write myself.

Been doing this for years and thus far 100% accuracy.

weird isnt it... do banks make out checks/money orders these days? I recall them wanting anywhere from $3-5.00 per

Yes, it is still a service every bank I have used still offers. Depending on what types and how many accounts I have with a particular institution, often the service has been free.
