Soccer match up during NCAA tourney. Uconn isn't in so soccer takes president. Hope to win this as next week Team USA will be in stadium Azteca... Will be hard to make it two in a row.

If you can't beat Costa Rica in the snow at home... They are on life support if they can't win this game.

Holy crap there's a good amount of snow! Should be an interesting game

Ever since that Hartwick game, I've realized that snow favors the inferior team, more margin for error, more open to fluke happenings.

If that team wasn't from a Central American weather paradise I'd agree.

This is like USF coming to Rentschler in December.

Throw in the absolute desperation the US should feel? It's really a 'must win'.

I really hope they don't call this game that would be disastrous for the US

The one they lost on the last play? And I would be wearing my Beasley World Cup jersey right now if it still fit.

A Beasley jersey? Even Baby Gap doesn't stock sizes that small.

Which president did it take? I was hoping for Carter but would settle on Ford.

My wife made me go see a giant reclining Buddha so I missed most of the game, but great win in a must win game.

3 points from the first three was the minimum acceptable result from the first three games, so at least we got that, and if we can get to 4 on Tuesday this would be a really nice way to start the hex. Six would be over the moon and Mexico would start firing people, which would be fun to watch.

Right now my wife is making me watch Gilmore Girls. I hope she lets me watch the game Tuesday.

Costa Rican team protesting. Called playing in the snow an embarrassment and disrespectful.

These guys are as tough as a soft pillow.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz............

Never ending winter. That storm is headed east now, and it didn't even have the good grace to happen on a weekday night.

The back four still showed far too many holes for my liking and there wasn't enough chances in the final third. But, with the lineup available it was a good showing if you can look past the conditions. Men of the match for me were, Beasley, Jones, and Goodson. I think the 4-2-3-1 formation should be kept going forward. If fits our current player pool the best and keeps certain match killers off the field. Right now, I think the 'A' lineup looks like this

Howard (Guzan)

Cherundolo or Chandler - Goodson - Bocanegra/Gonzales/Cameron - F. Johnson or Beasley

Jones-Bradley (Williams)

Gomez-Dempsey-Shea or Torres (Zusi)

Altidore

I think Donovan is done, though he bump everyone down on reputation though he hasn't made a siginificant contribution since 2010. One of the three centerbacks battling for the second spot will be bumped for Edu, though he's a turnover machine. I also see Boyd working his way in before 2014 possibly for Zusi or Torres, neither does much in my view. An in form Donovan would make this team a lot better.

I'm a pretty casual fan, but Klinsmann seems like a complete disaster. Does he even make it to 2014?

It became apparent from the moment Jurgen’s roster was announced that the names on the team sheet owed much to necessity and rather less to choice. Injury had decimated his choices of fullback and had necessitated the promotion of Brad Guzan to first choice keeper. While the inclusion of names like Bessler, Beltran, and Morrow on the roster certainly give cause for concern, given the shallow depth of the player pool at the moment, it’s difficult to name viable alternatives that would definitely be upgrades. Two names not on the roster signal something different though…the offensive and defensive leaders of the USMNT in the last World Cup would not be playing in the two most important matches of Jurgen Klinnsman’s reign to date.

Mexico game on Tuesday should be interesting. Won't miss it.

That's must see TV.

The biggest disgrace wasn't the weather. It was the fact we weren't allowed to play our corner kicks without some mystery infraction nullifying any possibility of playing the ball. They were bear-hugging our guys in the box. Zebras tried like heck to get this game even but we held on. Glad it's over but I couldn't turn it off because of the spectacle.

The protest won't (shouldn't) stand up b/c it is the refs call and it appeared the Ticos also wanted the game to continue. Why wouldn't they have, they were dominating possession and the play overall when the ref stopped the game for those 5-10 minutes.

All that being said, that game should have been called or they should have brought the plows on the field at the 60 minute mark. It would've taken 5-10 minutes and at the very least would have cleared the field somewhat. Regardless, it is 3 much needed points for the US, and on to Azteca. Should be an interesting game. El Tri are desperate for a win.

They're right. That wasn't soccer.

Maybe it wasn't soccer. But given the conditions the US has had to contend with on CONCACAF road games for decades, I don't see how this protest can be upheld.

I agree. They played the game, it wouldn't be fair to take a win off the board.

Many years ago I had a co-worker who was from Sweden (was in his mid 20's when he came here). At a MLB baseball game that was delayed due to rain he commented that a football (soccer) game would be played regardless. I replied that many American football games are played in the snow & he replied that he played many football (soccer) games in the snow while growing up and that they still played in shorts (did have long sleeve shirts however) regardless of the weather.

I doubt that a team from Central America is happy about the idea of playing in snow but I highly doubt that this is the first FIFA game to be played under those conditions.
