Anyone know why it's on so late? Usually, Mexico wants home games in the high noon sun.

Prime time for CA? The biggest market I would imagine.

Its a qualifier. It's so late since it was scheduled as a midweek game on one of the FIFA designated dates for WCQ. Since Mexico City is 2 hours behind eastern time (I believe), its a prime time start for the home team.

Should be a tough one. The USMNT is not healthy at all, and Mexico is desperate for a strong showing. They've looked suspect recently with back to back draws against the likes of Jamaica (at home) and at Honduras has the natives riled up. US getting even a point tomorrow would be HUGE.

If the US steals a point, Mexico might implode. Only 3 points through three games will send lynch mobs after the coach. At least we will be done with our two toughest road games with that amount.

Jones is out due to injury. Start Beckerman and leave everyone else where they were for Costa Rica? I'd almost like to see Beltran on the right, Cameron back to the middle, Edu paired with Bradley, and cross your fingers with Beasley at LB for one more game!

If we're going to replace Jones with a more defensive minded player, and push Bradley up the field to where Jones was, I'd much rather see Edu than Beckerman. Having said that, I might be templted to throw Klejstan into exactly the role Jones had Friday night.

This is a house money game. Not expected to get a point and can live without it. For Mexico, coming off back to back draws, less than the three points and goodness knows what happens to the national team.

I disagree with all of the posters here that believe we are not expected to get a point out of tonight's game. Of course we are expected to get a point out of tonight's game. We are just not expected to get three points.

I believe that our team has a good chance of securing the point on the road tonight. It would be nice to steal all three, but one will do...

Not sure what I'd do if I were Klinsman.

Edu as a straight replacement is the default move, but he's good for at least one disaster giveaway per game that leads to a goal. Kljestian is another disaster at this level, way too weak on the ball.

If you play Beckerman, you are hoping to hide him. He's just not on this level.

Maybe go with a 4-1-3-2 and throw Shea at LM and put Gomez up top. Could also work as a 4-3-1-2 and keep Bradley in between Shea and Zusi and put Dempsey behind Altidore and Gomez.

I'm not sure Zusi is ready for this level, but he is Donovan heir-apparent for that spot at the moment.

We are approximately 1-28-1 playing games on Mexico soil all time. In meaningful games, we have a total of one road point in history in Mexico.

So we are expected to get one point exactly why?

Or you can look at it as we are 1-5-1 at the Stadio Azteca over the last 16 years, whereby every loss was a one goal loss, with one coming in an extra period. And the fact that the most recent game (last year) was a US victory.

But it looks way better for your argument if you include all of the historical results...

The expectation of getting one point on Mexican soil is based on the expectation that we are now their soccer equals. Period. If a US soccer fan expects to lose in Mexico, then they should not expect to go to the World Cup. That's all I'm saying...

Except the US never wins there and keeps going to the World Cup. Wierd.

That was a mis-type. What I meant to say is that the US should not expect to do anything at the World Cup (like most in the US seem to think we should). If we believe that this current Mexico squad is the type of squad that we should feel honored to "steal" a point away from, then we are going to be in for a real awakening in that tourney. I, like you, am confident that we can always be the third best team in CONCACAF and qualify for the tourney. Weird...

I think people think we should be good at soccer. I can't imagine anyone objectively looks at this team and expects anything in 2014.

We agree on that.

My expectations for this team as constructed, and with their current playing form, are pretty low. My previous comments were perhaps more of a statement of where I think Mexico soccer is right now more than where US soccer is. I don't expect much from either side in 2014, although I obviously hope I'm wrong in the case of the US team...

That's ridiculous. You don't know what you are talking about.

We looked WORSE going into 2002 after finishing dead last in France in 1998. In 2002 we were one incompetent official away from making the semifinals.

We had a very good game against Portugal in that group (won 3-2), but don't forget that we got absolutely smoked by Poland in that same group (3-1). We ended up facing Mexico in the round of 16 and did a nice job against them by beating them 2-0 (we had beaten them by that same score at home in qualifying, by the way), and then lost to Germany 1-0.

That was about as good of a World Cup run as we have ever had as a country. Ever. And now I hate you for making me come to Whaler's defense... ;)

I can't forget. I was at every game in the 2002 WC. I was lucky to be stationed there that year.

Poland punched us in the mouth.

But the best game we played was against South Korea. You have no idea what kind of pressure the team was under. And the Koreans were under more pressure to beat us. At the time the Koreans hated America after the Apollo Anton Ohno thing and because our Soldiers had accidentally run over two young girls with a tank. The tension was unreal.

Against Germany, we flat out outplayed them in the second half. The thing I remember after that game was how most of the Germans collapsed in relief and exhaustion once the whistle ended the game. There was a ton of mutual respect on the field in that game since many of our players were Bundesliga vets.

Portugal game was the best sporting event I have ever been to in my life. We shocked the world that day, Portugal was a favorite to win the whole the thing that year. Donovan and Beasley made those guys look silly and slow..
