It's amazing how this post gets over 20 likes. I swear his place is some kind of netherworld

Forgot about Soul de Cuba in New Haven. Really good restaurant.
That’s another one that’s good, but I often overlook it because I still miss Roomba, which was a whole ‘nother level of the cuisine and a ton of fun.

Hoodoo Brown BBQ In Ridgefield. As a bbq snob it’s unique as it’s the closet thing to real BBQ in the North East as you would get down in Texas. Similar as in finding quality Pizza in Texas. Great Q and a really fun place.

Best brisket I've ever had.

I don't know if this is unique enough for you, but id Brazil in West Haven is awesome. It's a Brazilian steakhouse, and they have 15-20 different kinds of meat/entrees that they bring out to each table one after another and will give you a small portion of. By the time you've taken a few bites of that meat, the next one waiter will show up at your table ready to give you more. It's all-you-can-eat, and it's amazing.

Great call. Brazilian steakhouses ARE amazing...those places...have the meatS. Just don't get distracted by the salad bar...stay focused...your goal is a meat hangover.

I can’t speak to the Ethiopian restaurant you’re thinking about going to specifically, but I CAN vouch for Ethiopian restaurants in general. It’s an enjoyable group dining experience and the food is very good. That would be my choice.
Teff in Stamford is my favorite restaurant. So good. I went to high school with one of the daughters of the owners. Incredible Ethiopian/Eritrean food.

LOVE this place too. It's about a 20 minute drive from me in Norwalk, but I was so glad I checked it out. It's also rare to have a delicious BBQ meal without feeling like crap the next day.

I'll add Noah's in Stonington. I love how their regular menu is tiny and their "daily specials" menu is like 3 pages. Some of the best seafood I've ever had.

For you Hartford folks, I tried Aqui Me Quedo when I went to a conference with a Puerto Rican friend of mine. Left that place fat and happy.

In Branford, on Route 146...across from Lenny"s Indian Head...is a converted gas station that is now a pretty decent bbq joint. On nice weather days the overhead doors fly open and on weekend nights live music kicks the place into gear. Great beer and food.

You might want to edit a likely autocorrect error on the word "now."

I haven't lived in the NH area for a long time, but I have fond memories of both Cafe Adoulis and Roomba.

I have heard Ethiopian food is great. Places like that where the culture is thousands of years old usually have a great cuisine.

If I remember my microbio, you'll probbly get worms.

The Polish National Home in Hartford for lunch. It’s been highlighted in Gourmet magazine before.
I used to go there in the '50's with my dad and eat. My grandmother however cooked the best Polish food ever. Made everything from scratch. Her kielbasa was made from the best cuts of meat and was awesome. I miss that food.

The Place is good, byob and fun but overpriced and you are sitting on stumps on Route 1 with a view of Walmart and a need for bug spray most times. But the BBQ littlenecks are excellent.

Agree. I always though how nice it would be on a more secluded grassy spot with reasonable prices. But my favorites are the clam special and the corn.

Surprised you didn't mention Buffalina. Unique in food and size.

OP said he wanted to try food he hasn't had before. While I believe Bufalina is unique pizza, it is still pizza.

Besides, I've tooted their horn enough--perhaps too much, given the size and the fact that I don't want it to get any harder for me to grab a few seats there.

I’m certain if we collected your eloquent paens to Buffalina over the years we would have a Robert Frost level release on our hands.

And tom emery owns the content!

I’m going to talk to him about licensing.

I could also use them for a song cycle.

Two pies diverged in a Nutmeg wood,
And sorry I could not eat both
And be one eater, long I stood
And looked at one as long as I could
To where it bent under my tooth;

Then ate the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better clam,
Because it was fresh and wanted cheer;
Though as for that the shucking there
Had made them really about the same,

And both that evening equally lay
With crusts dark brown bordering on black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two pies diverged in a wood, and I—
I ate the one less eaten by,
And that has made all the difference.
