OT: UCONN Health Center: any feedback

Wife is at UCONN in Farmington after her appendix burst. In Thursday still here Saturday. The Medical staff doesn't communicate and seems completely put out when you need something. Faster I can get my wife out of here then better. Had one of my sons here and that wasn't bad. This time thru it's just not good. Has anyone had similar experience. Are St Francis or Hartford Hospital better?

I would avoid that place like the plague. Heard too many bad stories.

My son has down syndrome and had to see a specialist there am I experience was horrible. 2 and a 1/2 hour wait for a nine minute apt.

Make yourself a pain in the arse... any hospital over a weekend is challenging.

If the appendix burst. It's big, they r usually in the hospital for at least a few days for intravenous antibiotics. Needs to be able to eat also before going home. The support staff in the other 2 hospital might be more motivated but the docs r about the same. Stay at the same place is the best course for the wknd. She might be home on Monday.

fwiw- I have a close friend who has worked there for over 20 yrs and will not seek medical assistance there for himself or family
St Francis is much better

UCONN Health Center has an awful reputation. St Francis is where you wanna be.

Yeah, this. Once it bursts it can be a big deal. Mine burst, but already in the ER (not there). And they want you to walk afterward and I had just broken my ankle about a week before. Miserable 4 days.

I've had 3 surgurys at UConn including bypass surgery and all my Docs are there. I have had nothing but outstanding outcomes and would recommend UConn highly. Like any hospital it depends on your Doctor.

I couldn't give UCONN Health higher marks. I have been a patient there more than several times and most of my docs practice there. If I have a real medical problem that is where I want to be treated.

My Dentist is at UCONN and they do GREAT work. Could not ask for better.

Hartford for the serious stuff.

Hartford for orthopedic surgery. The top cardio vascular surgeon left Hartford about a year ago and is now at UConn.It all depends on the specialty required.I'm no doc but it sounds like Husky Dad's wife needs a general surgeon. The new ICU is like a resort and the staff is incredible. Same for the step down unit.

Yes, the top Connecticut hospital for patient safety.

Not everyone has this flexibility, but I ALWAYS ask for the first appoint of the day so there won't be any unreasonable delays. If the doctor wants to see me in 12 weeks, I'll move it back 14 weeks if it means I'll get seen first (ish).

I hope your son is doing well. I taught several kids with Down Syndrome. Each and every one was a delight to have in my class.

Kinda shocked to read some of these bad experiences at UConn Health. My wife is a radiation therapist at UConn. Every single person I've met from her department seems to love what they do and to help those who have cancer a chance to beat the crap out of it.

We always get the 1st apt 95% of the time. The 1st summer for Eli we went to children hosp 22x in 2 months (ultrasound, tests and more tests, cat scans, and many many specialist.... we go to the boston down syndrome clinic 2x a year also) because of many medical issues. Three years later we have Eli's medical issues under control and is down to really only 2 meds. Eli and his twin both spend around 35 in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

We got referred to uconn med to see a cardiologist and after visiting 4 hosp in the region it was the worse of our experience.

I probably have met your wife during my treatment. Dr. Dosett and entire staff were wonderful.

She is happy to hear that you had a great experience. She's the only blonde hair therapist in the department right now. She was out on maternity leave from January to May.

Dr. Dosett is a great guy.
