I'm not much of a football fan, but caught a bit of the UConn game today. Army not a very good team, but buries UConn, who had a very good season. Can't help but think that Mora leaving that team behind could have an effect on players. I know it's what goes on these days, but doesn't make it right. Where's the loyalty to his players? It stinks, and makes me sick to see coaches abandoning teams. I don't know, does this happen in basketball?
Oh, the QB was out. Still, gave up a ton of points.
Oh, some players opted not to play?
Guess I wish I hadn't posted this.

All season we’ve had to outscore our opponents. We have no defense, which really showed up today. We lost a lot from the previous year, and never successfully replaced them.

'Tis a new world for sure. But also not a world that just spins one way. If you were/are a Toledo
football fan you might be asking UConn new coach Jason Candle some question that are asked above,,,
including why UConn has a 3 star QB who used to be playing for Toledo but arrives in Storrs with his
'new' coach who used to be his 'old' coach...as are a few others.

IMO: Kids going here or there in portal movements seem far less problematic than coaches moving
about....which they have been doing for a long/long time/

QUOTE]Coaches move along when the time is right. It's their right - some handle it a little better than others. Players now do the same. Not that it was intended to have such a bad look, but Skyler Bell showing up and then quitting after one series was a horrible decision that gave a cheesy look to the whole show - who advices these kids

I think not having their regular season QB was a bigger problem.

That kid made a questionable decision also, although understandable, and his to make. Likely worried. about looking bad in the absence of two offensive line starters and some (now justified) uncertainty on the full participation of Bell. When you are a "marginal" first (or second) round pick, it is better to be seen than hide

He isn’t a 1st or 2nd round pick. Maybe undrafted free agent. That’s why he wants to concentrate on the all-star combines.

While I understand all the various scenarios that lead players to opt out of bowl games, I don't like it.

In general, between the coaches that leave, the players that sit out, etc. it is unpredictable from team to team what you are going to get. Depressing.

I saw an article in the Athletic today about the future of bowl games. The person who is involved with bowl games indicated that he believes there is a place for them, however, their future depends partly on the future set up for the playoffs and then "market forces". Interesting stuff.

Where do you see an all-star combine that was in conflict with participation in todays game preparation. All star combines are just getting going are they not?

UConn had 0 chance to win this game. All season the offence has bailed out the defense against any legitimate team. Yesterday, our quarterback opted out, two offensive linemen opted out, their all American receiver said he would play, but after one series he told the coaches he was through. Our quarterback was a freshman that threw only 1 pass all season, 3 of his first 4 passes were knocked down. This was a shell of the team that played so well this season. As an example, they beat Duke, and it just so happens that Duke won the ACC championship a couple of weeks ago. We are trying to get into a good conference, but with football we are taking 1 step forward and 2 steps back. If they are receiving NIL money, then they should be required to finish out the schedule.

I went to Texas A&M, so, believe me, I know disappointment! Lol

That being said, UConn football is tough to watch. I was hoping for a better outcome against Army.

Very sad. I don't know why the players bust their butts all season to get to a bowl game then decide to leave the program and not play. Goes double for the coach. The blame for this rests 100% on his shoulders. Even Edsel waited until after the bowl game. Leaving before the bowl game is inexcusable. The complete lack of loyalty does nothing to enhance a player's NFL resume. I wouldn't want someone like that on my team. Enough rant.
