Undeniably the best team in the conference... does UCF get in the playoff if they go undefeated again?

Side note: apparently people think our football team is ranked. ;)

It’s rigged. They could go undefeated for the next 3 years in a row and they will never get in. It’s a self licking ice cream cone with P5 always having a SOS advantage.

Here’s a thought. (I’m not saying it’s a great one!) Last year’s victory over Auburn coupled with their claim of a NC has put UCF in a much better bargaining spot. With all the political battles over access and money swirling around, the P-5 might want to allow it. “See, if you’ve got what it takes being a G-5 won’t stop you”. Then they can ignore the issue moving forward. If the big boys stumble it just might happen.

Article on ESPN about how ND may have a hard time making the playoffs this year even if undefeated because of the strength of the SEC and the Big XIi resurgence.

UCFs strength of schedule will hurt especially if no other team in the AAC also dominates. Add in their cancelled game against a P5 opponent and they are out. But this a moot point because they will lose a game this year.

.-.
They probably need two of three of Houston, USF and Cincy to be ranked toward the end of the season for a shot. Otherwise their schedule is going to be a limiting factor.

I've always thought that for an AAC team to make the 4 team playoff it would take 2 undefeated seasons and a superstar player. They need help but it could happen.

Making the playoffs and then playing Alabama this year would be a disaster.
If any G5 made the playoff they would always play the best team in the country the first game. It would be great the make the game but give fuel to the people that say g5 doesn’t deserve it and making increasingly more difficult or impossible to make it in subsequent years..

Even if they expanded to 8 teams and allowed a g5 a spot they would likely always play the best team.

Losing a game to Flo will hurt them undeniably. The good news is that they started #20 which makes the climb easier.

And they get to play Pitt next week. They need to blow them out and roll through the rest of American play to have a chance IMO

Agree with the above. Should they be in the Playoff? Absolutely. Will they? Absolutely not. College football is an Old Money Club party and only a dozen or so teams will ever be eligible for the CFB in the current 4-team model. So boring.

I think they’re good, but last years team had a better defense. They wouldn’t be able to win in the playoff with that D. Last year I think they could have had a chance

Alabama, the SEC in general and the other big names live in absolute terror of a Loyola-Chicago scenario. Could you imagine if UCF knocked off say Alabama then Ohio State? Or even one? And last years team had at worst a punchers chance. But Alabama Clemson will become boring after a while so there will be pressure to either expand the NIT or bring in new blood eventually. My hope is multiple unbeaten or 1- loss teams are uninvited and the 4th team in is a multiloss p5 who wins it all over another multi loss p5.

And last years team had at worst a punchers chance. And at some point the NIT champ will be filled with not too good teams. And NBC or Fox or someone will propose s game between the undefeated UCF and the NIT winner on Super Bowl weekend or some such thing. It won’t happen but it will start the expansion

I don't see it. UCF had a great season last year, but that's last year. They look very good, but their schedule doesn't do them any favors. They had 2 P5 Games on their slate and one of them has already been cancelled. The other is against a middling Pitt Team. I understand that they can only play who is on the schedule, but unless a few schools like Memphis or Houston really step up you know that the media will say "yeah but who did they play..." I wish all of the best G5 Teams would consolidate into one conference and get a true P6 established.

UCF beat Florida Atlantic 56-36 and gave up 320 rushing yards. It was 21-17 at halftime.

Oklahoma was up 42-0 at halftime and beat them 63-14.

Tell me what I'm missing.

How right you are to ask the question. UCF's defense is a shadow of last year's.

The big boys have the power to refuse to play schools like UCF and to then say “well they didn’t play any big boys.” The system is so beyond broken.

I think both this can be true as well as the fact that UCF isn't nearly as good as some of the best teams this year.

Yeah. That substitution thing applies. A beat B by 10. C beats B by 5. Therefore A would beat C by 5. Never fails. And proves conclusively that UCF was National Champion last year. They beat Auburn. Auburn beat Alabama therefore UCF beat Alabama.

Auburn beat Bama AND UGA. That's the full reasoning.

That would be a relevant data point if we were talking about last year.
