Endowment per capita would be an interesting stat to see.

UConn's endowment is $329 million, BTW.

in 2006 the top 6 , per student,were princeton,yale, rice, harvard, OLIN and GRINNELL.

Harvard's endowment is in a league by itself. I think UT's endowment may be affected by the price of crude oil.

Rice has a large endowment at $4.67 billion and $784K per student. As they have increased enrollment by about 40% over the past decade, the per student endowment has dropped under $1 million. I am personally grateful for it, as my son received 2 degrees over 5 years and basically paid no tuition.

Those are all chump change figures. The Milton Hershey School for kids is endowed with 7.8 billion dollars serving a school of 1818 kids from K-12. That is 4.29 Million dollars per student compared to Harvard's 1.4 milllion per student.

Yes, the Permanent University Fund is driven largely by oil money, and both the UT and A&M systems benefit. UT benefits more, however.

The land grant schools in Texas UT, T A&M got the mineral rights to something like 1/40 of the land sections in Texas. Oil production royalties are the reason for those big endowments
