Often called the 5th major....island 17th....probably the best field of the year.

IMO: it is a special tourney....with a ton of perks that dwarf some other events...but it should not be considered the 5th major. 4 is plenty. It would be a shock if the staid PGA decided to dump the PGA as one of the four
and embrace The Players as the new fourth but I would prefer that to having 5 majors.

The LPGA added a 5th recently....the Evian in Europe in the fall...big purse one reason but the real reason was that
Evian bullied them by saying that they would dump the event unless the LPGA made it a major.
The tour caved....imo.


BTW: Phil and Tiger and Ricky Fowler in a premier group. Phil and Tiger...newly found buddies apparently...older and wiser?

Spieth has already been in the water three times today through 7 holes. Yikes! Started bogey-bogey-eagle-double bogey. Don't think he's ever played well at Sawgrass, though. Maybe next year.

Time flies. It was 2013 when the Evian was classified by the LPGA as the 5th major.
