I' been there. The place is huge. Thousands and thousands of them.

Spent lots of time in Tucson during my working life and was always amazed as I drove by Davis-Monthan AFB. Incredible sight. That's all of our tax dollars hard at work....not!

Ya, thousands of aircraft, some at literally hundreds of millions of dollars each (F16 $19 million, C130 $62 million, C5A $168 million, B1 bomber $283 million, Stealth bomber $1 billion). Our tour guide had a spiel about how they preserve the equipment and harvest spare parts, and they save $17.00 for every $1.00 of parts recovered. But it didn't look like a "for profit" operation to me. Very impressive though.

The wife and I hope to go, maybe later this year. It is part of visiting Pima Air and Space Museum, however, a lot of their museum air craft are outside making much of the year a little hot for visiting. I assume the D-M bus is air conditioned.
