Go to Quebec and try poutine - French fries, cheese curds, and gravy. The combination is a stroke of genius. Emphasis on 'stroke'.

With that said, fries are just part of poutine. It's closer to a meal than a side. If you require fries to be the star, I'd go with French fries cooked in duck fat, sprinkled with Parnesan cheese.

EDIT: I just saw the other posts mentioning poutine, but I won't delete my duplicate post. Poutine deserves the extra PR.

Saw this on Bill Simmons' Facebook feed, thought it fed perfectly into some of the food threads here.

The Deepster's French Fry Power Rankings

1 - Garlic and Parmesan fries
2 - Pommes frites (traditionally cooked in duck fat)
3 - Truffle fries
4 - Shoestring fries
5 - Curly fries
6 - Regular french fry (think Wendy's size)
7 - Sweet Potato fries
8 - Crinkle Cut fries
9 - Waffle cut fries
10 - Steak fries (does anyone like these?)

Did I miss any others? I don't think things like chili fries should count. Or poutine. Those are more than a seasoning. They're a full blown ingredient dumped on top.

I can only assume poutine was left off the list because it is more than just a fry.

According to researchers David Stillwell and Michal Kosinski, the best predictors of high intelligence include liking "Thunderstorms," "The Colbert Report," "Science," and "Curly Fries," whereas low intelligence was indicated by "Sephora," "I Love Being A Mom," "Harley Davidson," and "Lady Antebellum."

Opiate of the masses and all that stuff, I guess.

I found the "Competitiveness" category pretty funny:
I Hate Everyone
I Hate You
I Hate Police
Friedrich Nietzsche
Timmy South Park
Atheism / Satanism
Prada
Sun Tzu
Julius Caesar
Knives

But the winner is the "Few Friends" category with people liking:
Walking With Your Friend & Randomly Pushing Them Into Someone/Something

Agree about Five Guys. Went there when it first opened in Farmington because there was so much talk about the first rate burgers, but it was the fries that knocked me out...

If hubby and I are strong enough not to finish the fries, we bring them home and then use them the next day as home fries. Awesome

Tater Tots ineligible?

I had some killer sweet potato tater tots last summer at a place called the Broken Record in SF.

If any of you Huskies fans are near or going out to SF give this place a shot. It's totally a locals joint.

It was on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives last fall.

I am a food show sycophant but why do I hate Guy Frieri and Anne Burrell? I do love Chef Wanted, tho.
