I came out a loser in this. Before the show I didn't know who Drake was (I thought they made snack cakes). Now I know who Drake is. I was better off before the show.

^^^^^^ I can't properly quote your post because you messed up the quote code

Dude the champions of: the NFL, NHL, MLB, NBA, NCAA Football, and NCAA Women's Basketball were nominated. I know the women did great and they deserve to be included, but what's the GLARING HOLE in that list? It just seems like it had to be an intentional omission. I agree with James.

We were a 7 seed, our regular season wasn't anything special. When your looking at best teams you have to look at the whole body of work.

I'm much more bothered that we were an "upset" to beat UK. We were a higher seed and just a much better team overall. They had no answers other than a few athletic plays.

You can't argue with the fact that UCONN thrives in that under dog role though. That's Calhoun's stamp. You back us into a corner, and we punch you in the mouth.

Overall it's whatever. What did we expect everyone to respect the program all of a sudden because we have 4 championships now instead of 3? I'm kind of glad nothing has changed. Keeps us hungry for #5.

I dunno why you guys are upset...UCONN had quite the presence at the EPSY's. Maya Moore was nominated in 2 separate categories as was Brianna Stewart. Both Geno & KO were nominated as coach of the year (who won that one...anyone know?), Bazz was nominated for best performance in a championship game & the men's team was nominated for biggest upset. I agree that both Stewie & Durant should have had a moment that wasn't on the red carpet. Not sure what ESPN was thinking there, but happy KD won it over "King" James.

Saw the last 1/2 hour. I think the audience was asleep. Applause for Stewart Scott and Robin Roberts was awkward. Kevin Durant looked freakishly tall. And when I saw Drake come out at the end I rolled my eyes and wad glad I missed him earlier. Saw him do SNL and didn't dig him at all.

Now I am going to watch that Norm MacDonald clip above. That guy is funny.

About 15 or so years ago, I met stuart scott on a plane from Charlotte. He was still fairly new to SC in those days. He was probably not in the mood for anyone that day, but I came away thinking "this dude thinks he is a celebrity", and thought he is too full of himself, and never really liked him as news guy since then. His speech last night, which I saw today on Twitter, made me think that may be first impressions are overrated. Last night's speech was moving, and he sounded humble and sincere. Wish him the best.

No, your first impression was spot on. He was a d ick for years.

I'm willing to bet his battle with cancer changed him and his outlook on life. Happens to a lot of people. Humbling illness to say the least

My cable box may actually be becoming intelligent. It seems to understand that if Erin Andrews will be televised for any reason, I will be willing to watch it both live and on dvr. It also seems to recognize that my gf's scheduled recordings of glee are somewhat more ambiguous and negotiable.

I never watch the espy's but tuned in last night because of the UConn nominations. I have six mostly pithy points to make.

1) not bothered by drake as an entertainer - only had been bothered by his front runner-ness (and UK/Cal supporting self) which he called himself out for. So that was good.

2) drake congratulated UConn for both men's and women's championships in the OPENING monologue so that was good. He went on to joke about the NCAA owning the players memories but at least they had the meal plan. Then he called out shabazz saying that it must be the best prison food in Connecticut. Then kept repeating shabazz's name while doing pelvic thrusts and finger shooting motions "shabazz why do you have to shoot from so far away" "shabazz that's what I say around the house when I'm angry" those are plays on some of his lyrics. Shabazz was laughing so all good - always good to have your school mentioned on national TV even if some mild jokes.

3) In regards to best team, the men should not have been nominated. In regards to UConn men being nominated for best upset, that was for the entire NCAA tourney run. Let's be honest, with our somewhat mediocre regular season we were considered a dark horse (at best) by mostly everyone outside of the boneyard borders.

4) Michael Sam segment and speech was moving.

5) Stuart Scott may be human after all. Great speech.

6) though there were some funny moments most of the rest of the show was hot garbage.

I've posted on the football board how I have a friend who has coached college football in the state for years. He knows SS quite well, and pretty much confirmed what you said. Even still, I felt kind of bad for having such a negative opinion of the dude based off of one chance encounter. Needless to say, I wish the best for him. And you are 100percent right, something like that will humble the pant off of you.

No one gives a damn an ESPY, Jimmer Fredette won an college athlete of the year over Kemba and Cam Newton that tells you all you need to know. The Michael Sam and Stuart Scott speechs were moving, there were a couple of funny jokes for the most part Drake tried way too hard to be funny.
