Better sandwich

Have you ever been to NYC or even Newark/ Jersey City for a bagel? REAL bagels like the ones in New York or Northern Jersey are soft and PERFECT for a bacon egg and cheese. I've been eating them for 54 years. The bagels are definitely not too hard for a BEC.
Yes, and have eaten many H&H bagels. That was a long time ago though so perhaps I've forgotten how soft they are. Still too thick for my preference though, but I won't turn one down.

Lox and cream cheese is damn good but it can't beat a BEC, just throw on sliced avocado and hot sauce.

I do my own hot smoked salmon (alderwood) and we have some decent bagel places where I be so get salmon from a local fisherman and combine with fresh cream cheese and red onion and it’s game over vs BEC

Bagel sandwich is complicating things unnecessarily. The best bagel on earth is a fresh sesame bagel from St Viateur in Montreal, ripped and dipped into plain cream cheese.
I'll see your St Viateur and raise you a Kupel's (Brookline MA) everything with a schmeer.

.-.
This may be the biggest mismatch ever.

Lox, cream cheese, capers, red onion blows it away.

I cure my own sockeye but there still aren't any bagels in Chicago like NJ bagels.
The poll is 50/50 right now, and I agree with you.

NJ is bagel capital and CT is the pizza capital.

NYC is overrated in both.

You either have never had a really good bagel or your taste buds are just whacked. The same thing as pizza. I will legit drive an hour out of my way to get a good bagel or a good pizza. As a guy from Queens, I take my bagels and my pizza VERY seriously.

Nope, I've been to all the heavy hitters. Someone mentioned a Publix bagel - that might very well be garbage - but that's not what I'm talking about. Someone mentioned H&H, they're fine. Not worth going out of my way for when there's a bagel spot on every other block.

Give me your list of bagels that'll blow my hair back and I bet I've been to at least some of them.

And this has nothing to do with pizza so that's not even worth bringing up.

I agree usually there's too much "bread" doing an egg sandwich on a bagel. Occasionally, I'll do it on a smallish bagel grilled with ham, egg and cheese. It is amazing.

For what it's worth, on a good bagel, cream cheese is enough. It is really delicious. I've yet to find a bagel better than NJ bagels. Certainly not grocery store bagels like Lenders, which are an abomination.

I went with BEC, but the real answer is Taylor Ham (I'd grudgingly accept "Pork Roll"), egg and cheese.

A pig is clearly the animal of choice for most meals and especially breakfast. There's no argument there.
I'm not arguing as I picked a BEC myself, just saying a pig so engrained into American culture that's it's normalized. A pig is a more disgusting animal then a fish just saying.

You don't even have the obvious winner as a choice...Taylor Ham Egg & Cheese and it's not close..if you don't know what that is...find out.

Yes, Jersey bagels are top of the line. When I visit my brother down there I stock up. The thing about Jersey and New York is that there are so many quality bagel places that bad ones won’t stay in business. They are soft but also chewy, must be the water.
Same for Jersey Italian restaurants which are off the charts good. I mean we go into this whole New Haven pizza thing and it’s good but their Italian restaurants blow Connecticut away in general.

just don’t do this

A bacon egg and cheese on a bagel is very tasty. A lox, cream cheese, capers, and red onion on a bagel is a whole different level.

It's like comparing a proper BLT to a proper pastrami sandwich.

I agree with people that a roll is a better vehicle for a bacon, egg and cheese than a bagel.

I make my own lox at home because they charge like $55 per lb for lox near me but I also always make my BEC at home. Most places don't even know how to make proper eggs. They whisk eggs chop them up and flatten out the eggs on a flat top for a BEC, that's the worst way to make eggs. Either do scrambled- crack your eggs starting in a cold pan and then stir them constantly on heat and off before cutting the heat and adding a little ricotta or over easy on a frying pan or poached.

I unfortunately can't solve the bagel problem, there's nothing like NJ bagels. For anyone who says there isn't a big difference. It's like getting French bread at Stop & Shop or getting French bread from a master baker.

Just plain ole cream cheese if I'm eating a bagel. Butter if it's already got cheese (Asiago, Cheddar/Jalapeno). I wasn't aware there were actual people who consumed lox outside of NYC. No thanks.

Bacon Egg and Cheese is best on an English Muffin. Bagel is too much bread. I always scramble the eggs.

Easily lox. Lemme get schmear, lox, tomato, thinly sliced raw red onion and a little bit of capers and BAM.

BEC are for rolls.

I enjoy a toasted bagel with cream cheese but a BEC on a roll from Country Cow is 1A on my breakfast list and it’s not close.

My kid gets it with a hash brown. I usually sneak one bite because it's over the top, but awesome.

Maybe I’ll say it differently. If you’re in NYC, you should not trek across town for one specific bagel. Wherever you are, I’m sure there is a really good bagel option that’s a better option than a subway ride.

A better poll would be to ask on what type of medium people like to eat their BEC on and a separate poll for lox.

For me BEC on toasted white first, toasted muffin second and reluctantly on a toasted bagel. I don’t feel there is a balance between the BEC and the bagel.

Lox always on a fresh everything bagel or onion bagel with a good amount of cream cheese and lox.

My take is more people like BEC than lox. Which would make for another good poll.

Our bagel shop has lox cream cheese, so I go egg everything with lox cream cheese and then eat the leftover half of the BEC my kids don't eat.
I may get crucified but there's sometimes where I go just straight bagel w butter and it hits every time
