If it’s not already a debate, what is the better sandwich on a bagel: BEC or lox w/ cream cheese, capers, tomatoes, and onions
 
Swiss cheese and thinly sliced ham, brown mustard, pickle or a drizzle of honey on a Pretzel Bagel.

Bagel sandwich is complicating things unnecessarily. The best bagel on earth is a fresh sesame bagel from St Viateur in Montreal, ripped and dipped into plain cream cheese.

Real ones don’t want little loop earring bagels boiled in honey water. NY/NJ bagels are kings of the bagel world. Yes, I am a self proclaimed expert.

As for the question at hand: BEC is best on a soft roll or, in some cases, a biscuit or even toast. I'm certainly not above a BEC on a bagel, but it's not my preferred delivery vehicle.
 
All right, I'll be the one to ask, what is BEC?

As for bagels, there is a big difference between the best bagel and an acceptable one in Central Florida. A bagel shop opened up about a year ago which is owned by transplants from Long Island. Supposedly, they ship water from back home and their bagels are much better than an acceptable one such as one that I can buy at Publix. I like a bagel fresh and untoasted and just rip it and eat it. It is worth the extra 3 miles when I want a good bagel.
 
BEC on a roll with scrambled eggs, well done bacon and hot sauce on the side to dip. Doesn’t get much better.

BEC is best served on a softer roll or bread. I'm not a big fan of bagel sandwiches in general but a large schmear of cream cheese and lox on a half bagel is delicious
Have you ever been to NYC or even Newark/ Jersey City for a bagel? REAL bagels like the ones in New York or Northern Jersey are soft and PERFECT for a bacon egg and cheese. I've been eating them for 54 years. The bagels are definitely not too hard for a BEC.

You either have never had a really good bagel or your taste buds are just whacked. The same thing as pizza. I will legit drive an hour out of my way to get a good bagel or a good pizza. As a guy from Queens, I take my bagels and my pizza VERY seriously.

It’s not that it’s too hard, it’s that it’s too high a bread to BEC ratio.

This may be the biggest mismatch ever.

Lox, cream cheese, capers, red onion blows it away.

I cure my own sockeye but there still aren't any bagels in Chicago like NJ bagels.
