The US, essentially, flew over the roadblocks by bringing in necessities by air, which was a pretty good trick for a population that size in the 1950's.

14. Hard to believe today but it was the Ivy Leaguers: Princeton, Univ. of Pennsylvania, Yale, and Harvard. Carlisle had this guy who was kinda good, Jim Thorpe.

23. "Berlin Airlift" occurred when in 1948 the Soviets created a land blockade around the western half of Berlin. The USA and England flew supplies into West Berlin. The Soviets dropped the blockade in 1949.
