Just read that Teddy took out a ten million insurance policy in case he gets hurt this year. Does anyone know anything about these policies. What circumstance do they pay and what could the premium be on that? Who pad it?

Whatever the fine print says. I'd guess a hundred thousand or so funded, legally of course, through a short term home loan, paying if he is not drafted due to injury during the season. Or, if his draft position is below a certain number due to injury. I'm sure there is a list of compensable injuries and approved physicans to make that determination.

As a custom policy, the risk is assessed and the premium assigned depending on the coverage requested. The options are limitless.

$40-60k for a $10m policy through a private underwriter.

The NCAA's Exceptional Student-Athlete Disability Insurance has a $5m max but does provide the advantage of an automatic low-interest loan for the premium where payment is not due until the student-athlete either signs a pro contract, the benefits are dispersed due to a catastrophic injury, or the policy expires (usually when the student leaves school). Clowney has his through here.

Here's some info that came out after the Kevin Ware injury.

I don't know anything about how those things work but I'm pretty sure the underwriter has never seen last year's L'Ville/UConn game or the beating our defense gave Mr. Bridgewater.

Thanks for the info. Very interesting. They are catastrophic only policies that have only been collected on once and only for one million.

A qb insured against playing the university of connecticut defense would be like an auto insurance policy taking on a driver with a dui and only one eye

I feel a very creative thread brewing here!

A QB insured against playing the University of Connecticut Defense would be like...........

The Hartford Courant hiring Desmond Conner as the beat writer for The University of Connecticut Football Team.

We'll find out Nov. 8th.

Looking 7 games ahead, huh? $100 says you never really played sports.

Bet you've got a shtload of participation trophies though..
