I'm planning on seeing it later this week, so please no spoilers.

For those that have seen it, is it worth the hype (or close) ?

Totally worth it. Like all Star Wars movies, it's also for an adolescent audience. Parts of it are kinda corny. That said, nothing as stupid as Jar Jar. I would also add (and I don't think this is a spoiler) they tried very hard to make it more like the original movie (#4). They almost copied the first one. I really liked it.

Reminded me a bit of how Jurassic World took nostalgia to the point of almost remaking the original. I really enjoyed both Jurassic World and TFA though.

I liked it a lot. I think they did a very good job incorporating and bridging the old with the new.

.-.
Should I go see the first one before I see this one?
I gather you mean the fourth one, i.e., the original Star Wars? If you're interested in the backstory, you might want to have passing familiarity with that, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. But you don't need to in order to enjoy it. My nine year old hadn't seen any of them and she was riveted by the new one. Now I'm going to watch those three with her.

To remember it? Or you haven't seen it before?

I know it's crazy but never a fan of that stuff or style of movie so I've only seen tidbits on TV and never the full production.

In respect to your 9 year old, please don't go by some of my posts here in order to assume my maturity level 8893

It was good but you'll leave wanting to see the next one which will probably take 2-3 years.

Truly crazy

Its good. There are two postings in the Entertainment section of this board that cover more - one spoiler free, one for those who have seen it.

@Jarhead_1775 @Horatio

Episode 8 is scheduled for May 2017 - only 1.5 years which isn't so long of a wait. There is another Star Wars movie coming out next December, but that is a standalone movie about the spies that were able to steal the plans for the original death star.

The next 'main' Star Wars movie, Episode XIII, is set for Memorial Day weekend in 2017. The next Star Wars movie will be Rouge One, a stand alone film, i.e. anthology, which will be out Christmas 2016.

Basically, starting with the Force Awakens, there will be a new Star Wars movie coming out each year from 2015 through 2020. Told my wife that and she started to cry.

Many Bothians died....

Better than the prequels (that's not saying much), but not on the level of the original trilogy IMO. Worth seeing even for the casual SW fan.

I'd rate it 7 out of 10. It was good, not very good. Not worth the hype IMO, but a worthy successor to the original 3. Try to leave logical thinking at the door though and enjoy it for the entertaining space opera that it is.

...and more senate politics. The prequels are what it would be like if CNN and Science channels married and had three extraordinarily boring children.

2 boring, 1 extremely douchey and angsty. Also, you forgot digital Erkel.

.-.
I enjoyed it but it has some flaws. Not as good as any of the first 3 but better than any of the prequels.

Sure. I hear you liked to play with Star Wars dolls when you were a kid.:) Merry Christmas.

Yeah I still do. I have a little hoop on the floor and throw my Chubaka out there and pretend he's AB and I dunk on him all night! LOL

Merry Christmas to you also Danzz

The politics of the original Star Wars movies, and then the disastrous 3 prequals with Portman and Christensen was probably the worst and most boring part of those movies...
