Can't be true. I read here private schools can't compete.

It took them quite a few years of consistent winning to do it, too. I feel like 4-5 years ago they were averaging about the same attendance as UConn despite going 10-1 during the regular season and whatnot.

All of the Facebook employees got to sell their stock. Now they are flush with cash. :)

It is rather unimpressive that it takes so much for their fans to jump on the band wagon. They sold 33k season tickets, not including students this year after 3 consecutive 11+ win seasons and 3 BCS bowl (2 wins). Not to mention that had a good year 4 years ago with 8 wins and a Sun Bowl bid. They have enough tradition and home football schedule that getting 30k season tickets should not be a huge accomplishment, unless of course you have never done it before. I would venture to guess we would hit those numbers if we were riding 3 11+ win seasons, 3 BCS Bowls with expectations of another and a home schedule that always included 2-3 top 25 opponents or ND (which is a draw even when bad). Our best year was 26k season tickets (??) and we did not have half the success this Stanford team has had as of late.

In 2006 Stanford opened their new stadium. It seats 50,000. Their old stadium sat well over 80,000 and had hosted Super Bowls and other major events.

They definitely are not a sports focused school. In an article I read about Andrew Luck his freshman roommate asked him what he was doing for the weekend. Andrew explained he was going to Seattle for a football game, that he played on the team. He asked if they had anymore game and when they were played.

Not the article I wanted but an interesting one none the less.

The west coast just isnt as in to football as the east coast. Some other examples

Oregon (will all of Phil Knights money only holds 54k
The recent Washington Stadium renovation actually reduced seats to 71.9k and they almost completely rebuilt the stadium.
Oregon State only holds 45k
