Do you need eclipse glasses for these?

Oh yeah..... that Solar Eclipse will be happening as well. I dont live in the path of totality....... it will be at 94% here in the Piedmont Triad. It still will be cool.

Here in the South... one of the best if not the best place to watch it will be actually Columbia SC. I saw on the news tonight that hundreds of thousands of people are expected to flock (pun intended) to Columbia for it. They are having a weekend full of events down there.

I didnt really think how big a deal this would be until I started to see Eclipse Traffic warning signs on the Interstate a few days ago. Then I read that they expect over 2 million visitors to the state of SC and hundreds of thousands more to visit NC.

Here is an interesting read .... at least to traffic/highway nerds like me. SC is the closest location for 1/3 of the USA.

Soul-crushing traffic may plague the total solar eclipse — these maps reveal the worst choke points

Another Attendance record for South Carolina?

The epicenter of the eclipse in this state is a really small town upstate. It is being absolutely crushed. Not that they don't know how to cope. One local small hotel is charging over 5X its regular room rate (over 1000 a night).

The key is moderation... I'll try to remember that

Anyway... Just curious... What do you remember about the last contential eclipse back in 1918...? Did they issue warnings about not looking directly at it? Was it a big deal? ;):D:p

Makes sense. SC wins the Championship the same year as the Total Solar Eclipse. I sense a strong correlation.
So when does SC win again?
Forecasts say 2024. Earlier than I thought.

I sampled the KK "Chocolate Glaze (aka CG)" yesterday (and am about to finish some leftovers with coffee...). My initial rating is 7 on a scale of 0-10. For a baseline I'd rate them about the same as KKs "original" (sugar) glazed, probably their most popular variety, especially good when purchased warm.

I thought the CG variety's donut would be chocolate. It is not. Just the glaze is chocolate. Not that there is anything WRONG with that ;). The donuts are the same as the regular glazed (NTTIAWWT...). I'll probably buy a few again today in the interest of further scientific sampling/comparison. (Since they may no longer be available)

BTW, the KK store I stopped at yesterday (Sunday afternoon) was packed with people/cars (~50% from out of state). People were walking out with 2 and 3 dozen boxes of all types. (Road food?).

The CG glazed was selling but not the most popular during my brief observation while waiting in line. :)

If they are looking at an eclipse anywhere in the world---about 18 years ago they should have won then---Only a guess but probably Uconn then

Right now at 1:28 eastern standard time you have just been through the total
eclipse in Montana --

Yup and for a while it was less than midday sunny but very very far from dark and the temperature dipped 8 -10 degrees for a time. If you aren't staring at it, it's a nonevent.

I live in Travelers Rest SC and we were just inside the totality...lucky enough to watch it from my yard. Kinda neat but not a big deal during the time leading up and wearing those ridiculous glasses. :) But the 2 minutes or so during the full eclipse was really cool. As soon as the last bit of sun went behind the moon it got dark with a snap of the fingers. Very cool affect seeing the sun completely covered with an aura like light ring around it. It was fascinating to see. A couple minutes later as the tiniest portion of the sun came back out it brightened up pretty quickly.
