SNY is SportsNet New York and the station the Huskies will be on next year, correct? I want to make sure before making the switch I need to do.

For those who might be interested, I recently finished a 5,000 mile walk across the country, drawing attention to both the abundance and necessity of kindness. Now that the journey is over I'm thinking of continuing with my Kindness Blog with a variety of ideas, including Sports Kindness. Please give me a heads up if you come across a good sports story of kindness.

In a similar vein, I plan to hike into a different town in Connecticut once a week to report on some type of kindness. I plan on using libraries as my main point of contact, but if you have a great story of kindness I'll be glad to hike into your town and interview you (though you would have to report on the kindness of your community or another person, not yourself). I'm in northwest Connecticut, so western Massachusetts and eastern New York could be doable for me as well.

DIGGER - great concept. Just back from a church Scholarship Committee picnic for the scholly recipients (wife is on the Committee). A tip of the cap to you for your work, and I'm sure this venture/adventure of yours will enable you to stay well.

WINLOTS, YOU FORGOT TO ANSWER HIS QUESTION!!!!

Yes, diggerfoot, after 18 years the Huskies will be leaving CPTV to be covered by the broader footprint of SNY, which reaches some 14 million homes in the Northeast. And, indeed, SNY is SportsNet New York. You've got the right channel!

OK, haven't quite got the hang of replying here yet. Thanks, Wonkster, for the info. Thanks to all for the support.

As a result of my post I received an email about a great story of kindness abroad from a Boneyarder. If he grants permission I will post it on my web site. If anyone else has a touching story of kindness please consider sharing it on my web site. You can email me at hiking(dot)humanitarian(at)gmail(dot)com

I'm glad you made that reply; it provides a teachable moment. Bad news is what tends to get filtered to reach a mass audience. The same day as that incident there were probably plenty of kind things going on in the same area at the same time, but they are not reported for a mass audience.

Ah, but to the matter at hand. I did not hitchhike, I hiked, as in walking every step (about 10 million of them). I used to hitchhike in the seventies, and am confident could come up with about 5 kind incidences for every one you can scour up from mass media, but I'll concede there is a problem with comparing across decades.

However, once again I hiked in the present. The conditions under which you come in contact with people from nonmotorized travel is different from motorized travel or hitching. So if we were to truly compare apples to apples, i.e., unkind instances of hiking in the present with kind instances, my challenge remains. You (or anybody) may use the Internet or any other mass media resources to come up with unkind experiences that occurred to people traveling long distances. I'll just go with my own personal experiences and those of other travelers of which I'm aware. I'll wager I can come up with 5 instances for every one you (or anybody) comes up with.

Well you certainly misconstrued the intent of my post. I did not search for an internet article to come up with an unkind experience just to mock your post. It's actually unkind of you to think that way. I read the linked article just moments after I read this thread. If you look at the time the AP story was posted you can see how recent it was. It is listed under "Headline News" on XFINITY which is my home page.
I posted it simply because I thought it was a weird coincidence. In fact I had to recheck the name of the guy to make sure that it was a different individual.

Of course, I would have no idea what the intent of your post would be, so if you read carefully I did not ascribe any intent to it. Anything could provide a teachable moment, including a weird coincidence. Don't you think it would be an instructive challenge for someone to take up, regardless of what a priori opinion or intent that someone might have? I'm sorry that by making that challenge (generically, not aimed specifically for you alone) you assumed I was making a statement on your intent (which I certainly would hesitate to do via an anonymous Internet forum) rather than the teachable moment you provided.
