looks like the Celtics just traded Ray.....havent heard where yet
With aging Garnett and BBass as their only competent frontcourt players the Celtics desperately need to blow it up and rebuild, but everyone knows this so they are only getting .50 - .75 on the dollar when shopping Ray or Rondo and no one wants to take a risk on Garnett. They need to get really lucky in the draft and since Rondo they haven't made one even decent pick.
So I think they are doomed and even though I love being able to watch Ray on a regular basis I'd be happy for him IF he's traded to a contender like Chicago or Memphis.
Ainge should step down, he is a disaster at GM.
Perkins, now Ray. Jeez.
He lucked out landing Garnett and Ray in the first place, and his drafting decisions have been putrid.
One player? Rondo? That's it? After all these years?
Allen, Garnett and Pierce should all retire as Celtics and their numbers hang over the rafters. I would really dislike, as a lifelong devotee of the Celts, to see Ray or others end their great careers with other teams.
This is the same sentiment that put them into a spiral of mediocrity for the majority of the 90's-the early 2000's. The 1980's front office had a chance to trade McHale in 1989 and Parish in 1990, didn't do it and has said they regretted it in hindsight. Well soon after that, Bird's back becomes too much to handle, McHale's foot and leg injuries become more and more common, Reggie Lewis suddenly passes and poor drafting catches up with them. They went from championship contender in 1990 to average team by 93. They were stuck in the lottery until 2002 except for one season when they got into the playoffs as the 8 seed.
I would hate to see this happen again. Ainge has proven to be a decent drafter. Many of his picks he used as assets in other deals. They haven't been in position to draft impact players lately so you get the Avery Bradley's of the world, nice role players but not guys you can build around. The problem this franchise will face is they will have a ton of cap room after this year but who was the last free agent of substance who wanted to come to Boston? Why spend the winter in Boston when you can go to Phoenix, Miami, Orlando, LA, etc, etc, ect.
Ainge will have to pull another rabbit or two out of his hat to get max contract-quality players in Boston via trades this offseason.
If that's accurate, the knicks are thieves.i heard melo and amare for garnett and allen

Well the deadline has passed and the Celtics did not make any moves.
They will have a load of cash this offseason. The question is, who comes? I can see resigning a KG or Allen as part of a sign and trade.
I don't think the lack of a deal had anything to do with making another run with this group. It's more a matter of not taking .50 on the dollar talent wise moving one or two of the players for some average at best talent you'd be stuck with for a while. over the plan of freeing a ton of salary with Ray and KG off the books next season. The only problem with this is how little talent will be out there over the summer to spend on.I think the Celts will try for two more years with the current line up. Pierce is signed for 2 and Rondo for 3. Bradley for 1 more.
The thing is ticket sales. The Celts can sell out another two years with the same backbone
I could only hope this is true being a knick fani heard melo and amare for garnett and allen
id rather get rid of melo to be honest and get a nice wing in a trade or draftI could only hope this is true being a knick fan
