OT: RIP Storage Wars’ Darrell Sheets

Storage Wars and American Pickers destroyed auctions and tax sales for me. And not just because they were staged.

Before those two shows, and to a lesser extent antique roadshow, there were a lot of bargains that could be had a tag sales and auctions. But now everybody thinks everything they have is worth a small fortune.

Most people have no idea what things are worth. The family silverware is typically silver plate and often just stainless steel. I went to a "Antiques Roadshow" kind of presentation where people brought things to be valued. Much like the show they were absolutely clueless.

That said, the "expert" whom does make a living at estate sales and that type of stuff was stumped by the piece I brought in missed some key identifying marks, etc. AI actually values things reasonably well if you get it enough information.

Most "reality TV" is about real as the WWE. I think you have to accept it as entertainment, with an occasional kernel of fact thrown in.
