Former STP front man dead at 48. Drugs claim another one.

Stone Temple Pilots looked like they had staying power. Core was a great lead off album and Purple was a solid follow up.

Shocked he lasted this long. Seriously. In highschool, I wasn't sure who would go first, him or Layne Staley. Staley beat him by more than a decade. Shame, two incredible talents.

Just saw this on my news feed. Someone mentioned how it's not really all that surprising, but doesn't make it any easier to deal with.

It's either the H or that Hunger Strike curse again. Taking down the frontman of all the best grunge acts. Chris and Eddie knew. Mudhoney and the Melvins best start recording a reprise.

STP was one of my favorite alternative bands, back in the 90's. I saw them live 3 times in Ct, always putting on a good show. Weiland was a cool dude, with a great voice. I loved listening to Big Empty, Interstate Love Song, Plush, and the MTV unplugged cd. It's a shame he had to go out this way.

It's funny you say that, because I always associated STP and AIC together. When I was 15, I went to visit a friend in California. We went to Tower Music, and I bought Core and Dirt on CD, and we listened to them in his car all week.

RIP. heroin.

Nirvana exploded on campus when I was in Storrs and was a huge part of my college experience. I can say the same thing about STP when I was in my mid 20's, living far from home and adjusting to life with a job, bills and adult problems. All the while still wanting not to let go of partying my face off!

RIP, Scott. You were front and center for a lot of fond memories of my youth.

Great band and Weiland was a friggin' rock star, just a great frontman. That early 90's rock movement was amazing, glad my love of music was developing at this time and got to experience that movement along with the last great hip-hop movement at the same time, the way things are going I worry we won't have anything like it again.

Thank you for this, superjohn. I just spent 4:44 being 23 again. Much love.

At my gig right now just sound checked interstate love song. Gonna give that a run tonight. The deadheads should love that. :)

We used to do both that one and "Vaseline" back in the day. People always loved it. They were a really, really great band.

Good road trip song. Top down during the summer.

I never knew all the lyrics until I just pulled it up on ipad for run through. Lol, he has an interesting way of phrasing that kinda obscures the words.

What do you play? I saw you post something a couple weeks ago about playing with a big name, it escapes me now.

AW once was second keyboard for Soft Cell. Then went all in on the Dead genre. Now in Cherry Garcia with Nuts, I think.

Dude was a MF'ing rock star in the 1970s sense of the term. I think this is a great take on what he and STP were: http://theconcourse.deadspin.com/farewell-elegant-bachelor-scott-weiland-rip-1746167697

I loved the first 3 albums, and how unapologetic they were. Been listening to them for the last 24 hours, and they still hold up.
Yeah he really was a rock star. First saw The Stones in '75 and have seen a whole bunch of front men in my day. He could hold his own with the magnetism. Saw STP twice. And not surprisingly one show was great and the other a godawful mess. Like a Stones or Aerosmith show back in the day when u just never knew what you would get based on who was on what substance.

Saw Velvet Revolver at Webster in Bport during the brief sober period for SW. He was spot on running through the audience and being the dude. Slash was 'd up. Rock n roll. But man we lose the good ones early ha?

Loved 'em both Nomar. But STP was LA glam and AIC just dirty dirty smack sound from day one...at least to my ear. But never saw Alice live.

I love AIC, but they were hair metal first: http://www.metalsucks.net/2015/02/25/friendly-reminder-alice-chains-began-hair-metal-band/

I don't hold it against them at all, but there was something so authentic in the unapologetic way STP presented themselves.

If you read the comments on that article you'd see that only Layne was in the hairband version. AIC had a very original approach to their song compositions. Nothing hairband about them.

STP was the closest thing to 90’s version of Led Zeppelin.

That was a great time for music.

I'm terrible with links but STP Down live at the Rolling Rock is a good example of what a true frontman he was.
