It runs in my family, too. My doctor put me on folic acid supplements. Will it help? Who knows. I guess it can't hurt. I know that my mom went downhill quickly after she stopped working, FWIW.
While folic acid might help, that's a somewhat strange suggestion. Either your doctor knows too little or is extremely in tune with your health profile. No, I'm not an "all doctors suck" kind of guy, but I will say that our primary care physician takes her cues from me regarding this particular illness. I won't go too much further into this, as this post on the men's board got hijacked. I encourage anyone to pm me or visit my
brain health page for more insight. I am also starting to compile a short eBook on the matter which will elaborate on the topics on my page.
Let me just quickly add and end that diet is key .... unless poor exercise habits thwarts what the right diet can do for you. I guess that means exercise is key .... unless stress short circuits your metabolism. I guess that means stress is key ... unless you live in an unhealthy environment with too many toxins (smoking, pollution, processed foods ... ok, so that's diet) for your nutrients, exercise and lack of stress to overcome.
Be well.
