Will soon be off to Kennebunk Beach ME, to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Would like to stop on the way for lunch, possibly in Ogunquit. Would any of our far-flung correspondents have recommendations for a place to eat? Appreciate any and all help! Thanks!

Bob's Clam Hut is excellent. You order at the window and can seat yourself on the inside or the outside depending on the weather. Jackie's Too in Perkins Cove is nice and right on the water. We always eat there when we are up in Maine. Bob's is open year round but you may want to check with Jackie's for their hours this early in the season.

I highly recommend Bintliff's. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but we've been a few times (breakfast as well as a dinner) and it's always been special.

One excellent choice is "Joshua's" in Wells, between Kennebunk and Ogunquit, easy on and off the turnpike. Joshua's parents provide locally grown produce on their farm. Good choice of wines and small dining rooms in a converted house. We've been eating there for about six years.

Also, the Maine Diner is in Wells. It is fantastic and has been featured in both national and local tv shows. It is not fancy by any stretch but the food is pretty incredible. If you are not in a rush, you can drive up rt 1 instead of 95 once you get to Portsmouth. There are a bunch of seafood places along the way but I suppose not all of them are open for the season, but I'd say check out the Maine Diner. I imagine you wouldn't want pizza when you travel but there is a pretty special pizza place in Kittery called When Pigs Fly. It is not your average house of pizza.

Congrats

If you go to the Maine Diner for Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner----- It will be hard to go anywhere else! It is not fancy- an old time diner. Every dish is so fresh- the seafood is incredible. Their scallops are as good as anywhere- anywhere. All my fly fishing buddies, cannot travel to Canada Salmon fishing without getting off 95 and traveling 10 minutes or so off the highway to go there- doesn't matter the time of day. If there is a line- tough it out- it is worth it!!!! Surf and Turf is unreal, the fish and New England chowders are to die for. The Lobster Pound was always good to us in Agonquit. We also used to stay at the Gorgeous Grant Lodge or Resort, and they always used to have award winning breakfasts, but not sure that is still the case. Will be at the Maine Diner on May 25th heading up fishing. U guys are killing me with food posts- I'm a "foodie"

Also- Bintliff's above is a great regular place for us. And Bob's Clam Hut above also when we shop in Kittery- If that is the one near the water and near the Kittery Trading Post!

Thank you to Waquoit, Frodo, CONNU, Papa33, bschwartz and Geno-ista!
We are off tomorrow and will certainly be taking your recommendations with us. Can't wait to try your suggestions. I am sure we will be full and happy!

I found it interesting no one mentioned Barnacle Billy's. Has its time passed?

Another fan of the Maine Diner. Try to 'time' your visit as it does get busy. Most any meal is good but, with our normal schedule, we tried to be there for late breakfast or late lunch, which worked pretty well. Peak season is busy no matter when you arrive, but now should be OK.

Most any time or meal is good and a bit of a fun. They handle crowds well. They have a lot of experience ... www.mainediner.com

Also on that "When Pigs Fly" - excellent bread - various types well worth a stop....

This is going to be a very yummy trip- thanks to all of you and your excellent suggestions. We are planning on having our anniversary dinner at Hurricane in Kennebunkport - one of our favorites and quite delicious!

We've never tried there for some reason-can't comment!

If lunch is what you are looking for, I have 4 places to recommend...Wild Willy's Burger (York), the Fisherman's Catch (Wells), Billy's Chowder House (Wells) or Barnacle Billy's on Shore Rd. in Perkin's Cove (Ogunquit).

It is your anniversary, pull out all the stops. Go the extra mile to Portland and have a romantic dinner at Bar Lola up on Munjoy Hill!!!!!
