Houston AD: Potential Power Five football opponents see UH as "too formidable"

“The University of Houston's recent success against Power Five schools has made it difficult to schedule future non-conference games, according to athletic director Hunter Yurachek.

The Cougars had won seven straight football games against Power Five opponents -- including Florida State, Oklahoma and Louisville (twice) -- before losing to Texas Tech earlier this season.

"[It] was both a blessing and a curse for us," Yurachek wrote in response to a scheduling question in his monthly 'Ask The AD' segment on the athletic department's website. "The curse portion coming in non-conference scheduling where some programs see the University of Houston as too formidable of an opponent."”

The irony behind this is incredible. The cartel won’t schedule games against them because they’re afraid of losing but when UH wins they’ll say “but you haven’t played anyone”. Hypocrisy at its finest.

Makes sense. Since the football playoff has to come from a P5 school (as an undefeated UCF may prove) any loss to a non-P5 school is going to eliminate the P5 school from the playoff and exponentially damage SOS for other bowl games. It's confirming that the playoff system is skewed and non-P5 schools are being dinged in the rankings unfairly.

I hope everyone that yells about the G5 not having enough quality in their non-conference scheduling sees this and come to the same realization that many of us have already come to. The P5 doesn't want the G5 to succeed, and they are doing a great job of locking us out of the process...

Should bode well for our future P5 scheduling at least :(
They've openly talked and even scheduled non conference games against conference foes. They're closing rank. The writing is on the wall.

P5 dodged a bullet with Houston in 2016, good to see they're learning from their mistakes.
