Isn't this a textbook tortious interference case? Ole Miss could make a "fair competition" claim, but with the LB under contract, that is an uphill fight. Tortious interference claims do happen in services industries where there are highly compensated employees under contract, which is college football now. College football is going to have to work these things out, and there will be lawsuits.

I guess whats mildly suprising is that players actually attend class.

As for the rest of it, I’m somewhat conflicted. We all like to pretend that college sports are somehow about sportsmanship and integrity, but in fact, it’s a dog-eat-dog multibillion dollar business. That being the case, and given the courts role in defanging the NCAA, I guess let the best, most outrageous, color outside the lines team win. Yeah its sad that the sportsmanship and integrity myth gets laid bare - but once the money got crazy, there was no where else things could go.

What sort of confuses, me are the folks here that want to get into a P4 league and participate in this unsustainable nuclear arms race.

We're all diehard UConn fans so we want to continue winning championships and we want our football team to compete on a somewhat level playing field and compete for the playoffs.

It shouldn't be confusing to you.

The Ivy league won’t take us.

But it is. If you want to compete in football on a level playing field, you won’t find it in the P4 (see the original article), so it confuses me why anyone would want to dilute our finite resources trying to compete in a rigged game that we’re ill equiped for.

What are you suggesting?

It's my understanding they're still classified as students, and not employees.

That we should stay indepedent in football (we just had a fun successful season) or find a non-P4 league for football only. Stay in the Big East for all other sports.
I was going to say it looks like there's two options from what you were getting at...

Get rid of the football team to free up more money for basketball while getting 7 times less money from our TV deal?

Just stay as is and don't try to get in the P4 so we're getting 7 times less from our TV deal, our football team remains independent and we still have to fund it with big dollars?

Yeah, no thanks. I love the Big East and always will and it's fine for now but we're doing everything to get into the P4. It would be pure negligence not to.

A fun successful season is not what UConn strives for.

Yes because our #1 WBB and #2 MBB programs clearly are resource constrained as is

No thanks...Big East is not our future...if we stay in the BIG EAST, we would screw up all the athletic departments sports...

Yet another disfunctional element. At this point I can only assume that the NCAA is completely toothless. Major college athletics could not possibly be more ****ed up.

Coaches only speak out if the portal effects them this is virtue signaling.

Yep, 100%. Not like Clemson will file any lawsuit because of this, specially considering Clemson would like to leave the ACC for perhaps the SEC (besides which we know just how much the ACC loves schools filing lawsuits against other schools/conferences, don't we 😉). Dabo can blab all he wants, it ain't gonna change the system. We lost a portal signing after a few days, that's how things are allowed to work now. If gameday rosters need a 2-deep, portal signings need like a 3-deep just in case your primary or secondary bails. Like @uconndogs called it, the NCAA are really impotent at managing the portal, redshirting, you name it.

So, how soon before we get hit with some retroactive penalty?

You do realize the Big East kinda sucks right?

3 projected bids for mens hoops. Uconn women beating all conference opponents by a gazillion points.

It is not what it was.

Maybe its fine for baseball and volleyball but in long term hoops needs a better home too.
