This being the BY and staid Conn. expect incoming flak, but what the heck .... Halftime Friday would be a perfect opportunity to add some juice to Saturday and maybe even sell some more tix. Given Saturdays 3:30 kickoff, the team could make a cameo and head for hotel and curfew afterwards. A hype video w highlights of the '04 and '07 football wins over Duke would be cool --had forgotten what a barnburner the '04 22-20 win was, w/Nuzie making and them missing late field goals. And, yes, splice in 77-74 and epic 2nd half in Final Four semis in '04. Decorum prohibits adding the attached, but that doesn't mean it can't be enjoyed here

I'll bite. I don't hate this idea. Maybe not have the full team there, football guys have a routine and you don't want to mess with that. But Mora with Skyler, Fagnano, and Edwards addressing the crowd at even an earlier media timeout would be big. Get them in and out and back to the team hotel.

They do still in fact stay in a hotel in downtown Hartford. Mora talked about it on an early coach’s show. During camp they did a full run through of a night before game and stayed at the hotel before a summer scrimmage

i just googled/reddited this topic, and yes... it is common practice for HOME teams to stay in hotels the night before. that's wild man. that's a lot of money just to make sure some grown ahh men report to the stadium on time, and NOT hungover from the night before.

it's almost like they're just boys. lol

Only conference I could find that does not do this is the MAC.

As I'm fond of pointing out, the famous threatening gesture in the picture below is taken out of context.

That's actually a freeze frame of Sellers diving for the ball. Sellers looks menacing, and Laettner looks terrified, but it was actually just a part of normal game action. You can double check that by pausing the video as Rod dives for the ball. You'll see the still above. Of course, a couple of seconds later, he did dribble Laettner's head off the basketball court, but the iconic photo is not of that.

I'm inclined to believe that if the photo didn't exist, and wasn't taken out of context, Sellers would never have gotten the one game suspension.

can't verify but thought I'd heard the Rocky Hill Marriott was used for pregame lodging

Anyone who attends Friday's basketball game, gets in to the Rent for free on Saturday.
For those who have tix to both, ypu get a free extra ticket.

EDIT: If free is too much of a kick in the nuts for those who paid full value, make it a $5 ticket with proof of Friday basketball attendance.

It's more for consistency of routine and eliminating risk of traffic or anything else.

that explains uconn, though that's still a lotttt of money.

but clemson? bama? everything is resonably around the stadium, on campus... so why hotels.
sry if i'm poking - i don't actually care this much, but the money req'd, just seems ridiculous.

I suppose this whole staying in a hotel the night before a home game began long after I graduated from UGA (back in the Stone Age, student athletes lived on campus in their spectacular athletic dorms). In this NIL age, I guess they’ll buy houses to live in.

Plenty of the expenses of college football seem ridiculous, but all the top programs, and close to 100% of all programs operate this way.
