In the recent posting of the "Lion Whisperer", some folks related their witnessing of other folks confronting wildlife. In the spirit of the off-season, I'm inviting you to write about your own wildllife encounters, good or bad.
In the mid-'70's, two of us stopped at a lakeside parking area, just at the western end of Rocky Mt. Nat'l Park. We were atop a cascade of uniform rocks leading down to the water.
As we stood, a head peeps from the rocks. Then a second, a third, until a half dozen hoary marmots were checking us out. Obviously not new to people, they ascended.
We had a supply of trail mix and cereal and began feeding as they rallied round.
They took from our hands, and I got such a relaxed feeling that I soon lay on my back, poured cereal on my flannel shirt, and just watched them go to town. Unforgettable.
Today, I'd probably be arrested.
