. . . to the colleges/universities they attended. Gifts cited were very generous (several million dollars each) and one pro said it was a "thank you" to his school, probably a widespread sentiment of these former student-athletes who have become extremely wealthy as professionals. No comprehensive list of these appreciative donors was provided; surely there are others.

Only one former UConn player (Caron Butler, two years) was mentioned but only his highly successful early career as an entrepreneur in his Racine region - plus his ambition of someday owning an NBA franchise - was discussed. Apparently he has about $75 million from his NBA earnings and will be paid another $8 million this upcoming season.

And Gampel is steadily becoming an obsolete historical edifice.

Kib - some athletes have probably made large anonymous donations as well, but yeah, you would like to think more Uconn professional athletes would want to publicly support their alma mater.
When they were building the practice facility it was interesting to see how many former women's players participated in the fund raising, but I think that also speaks to the disparity between men's and women's athletics and how 'grateful' women were to find a place that took them seriously and supported them. And you see it in how former players consistently are around the program, whether at FFs or just in attendance at games or functions, or practices.
Geno and CD I think are more involved in the life of the women that come through their program (and the women allow and want them to be) than Calhoun was. That may be more of a fundamental gender issue in our society, but Uconn stands out when compared to other women's programs around the country in terms of that alumni presence.
