One thing to think about: people keep talking about how good Kentucky's 3pt shooting defense has been. But the SEC had
terrible shooting teams in it. Look at the national rank of
all the teams.
149: Arkansas 34.9%
154: Auburn 34.7%
160: Texas A&M 34.7%
172: Kentucky 34.4%
180: Georgia: 34.2%
194: LSU 33.9%
222: Ole Miss 33.2%
229: Tennessee 33.1%
237: Missouri 32.9%
263: Florida 32.3%
284: Alabama 31.7%
305: MSU 31.1%
327: South Carolina 30.1%
And UNC was 107, Louisville was 312. Texas 196. West Virginia 291. Cincy 235. None of these teams had the chops.
Kansas was 49 nationally in 3pt shooting percentage, to be fair. But that game was in November.
I left one team out: Vanderbilt. Who was thoroughly mediocre, but shot 39.2% from 3--19th best nationally. They sucked...but were in the game the entire time against Kentucky...AT Kentucky. They lost by 8, and played them even in the second half, and it was a
4 point game with 2:30 to go.
Notre Dame shoots 39.2% from 3, good for 18th nationally.
Duke is 26
Gonzaga is 3
Others are up there too...much better than the terrible SEC.
Again, Kentucky is the best team. But context matters.
