So I had a birthday in late April and my wife naturally ordered up a medley of UConn 2013 NC gear from the UConn store, expecting it to arrive a day or two before I got older and crankier. Two weeks after my b-day the package arrived by Fedex (or maybe in spite of it) after making trips to various spots around the country and having even spent a day early on in my NY town before being shipped off to Florida to molder for a while.

The UConn store responded to my wife's and my tale of woe by knocking off the shipping charge and essentially converting it into a $10 credit at the UConn store. Very nice, but the problem is that I don't want this to be an excuse to roll the tenner into another purchase for an already bursting collection of tees and shorts and whatnot; I want to order something for $10 or under. That unfortunately just knocks off the following desirables:

------ UConn Cooling Towel, UConnopoly game set, Valet Keychain (plus I don't have a valet), Ponytail Holders (also I don't have the ponytail since I don't work in advertising), Large Resin Piggy Bank (and until the kids finish college I have nothing to put in it), or any of the awesome Garden Gnomes.

But after checking through the categories and focusing on either the 2013 NC gear or general stuff that fits more with the women's BB team than the men's 2011 NC gear that is heavily reduced right now, the following are things I could go for. Any help on making the right pick from the UConn logo decorated gear below would be greatly appreciated.

  • Insulated UConn Huskies NCAA Lunch Bag.
  • Peel and Stick Skin and Fingernail Tattoo Combo Pic (for an offspring member of the family who does not play for Geno and CD, and actually doesn't even go to a D1 school but does pay proper respect to her dad's UConn beliefs).
  • 6 foot Mini Tape Measure Keychain.
  • Two sets of the Team Logo Eye Black Strips
  • Blue Spirit Hair Gel
  • Sublimate Logo Neoprene Coaster Set
  • Blue-Silver Metallic Rooter Pom
  • Women's Navy Blue Polka Dot Knee Socks (again for offspring who traditionally gets LittleMissMatched footwear for Xmas)
  • 2013 NCAA Women's Basketball National Champions Plastic Sign

I'd go with the gift socks or the coaster set. Probably coaster set seeing as it was your birthday.

-Gotta agree with meyers.
-Look, if like most of us, you’re striving to someday attain a lifestyle like pinotbear or Ozzie, you’ll need the coasters. Otherwise, apparently, the “help” just can’t keep up, trying to remove all those unsightly ring marks left from crystal stemwear & malt-tumblers on the Louis XIV antiques, the baby grand, …not to even mention the toilet tanks.

Thanks for the feedback. I kind of like coasting on things anyways.

Any chance of me getting a job in advertising died years ago when I submitted to the UConn PR Dept. a suggested ad campaign based on the slogan, "Watch out where the Huskies go, and don't step on their great mojo." No go, though I thought it was pretty zappy. Back in the the early 90s I suggested "UConn Win One" for the slogan, but the school had had far more grandiose ideas. Yeah, so no ponytail.

Arty, I think my toilet tank could use a little decoration, and maybe a ring theme would do the trick. Maybe in colors other than brown though.

And Meyers, after the NY Times ran the story today leading with the pic of the Arsenal fans taunting the Queen's Park Rangers, I was sure you'd change your avatar to something that conveyed a more civilized breeding. I'm sure my West Ham guys would never think of making fans from other teams feel bad.

That sounds good too, if I can get Geno to give an endorsement for the Blue Gel. Of course, my hair is more like a fine Scottish rabbit's than Geno's Campanian goat themed hair, but maybe the gel can provide some extra spirit next time I watch a game.

That's civilized compared to what Arsenal fans would do to Spurs fans. ;)

Oh sure, but cannibalism is not generally condoned for most sports fans. I mean, no one here has ever said we should munch on Summiteers for after-game snacks.

Well then, considering that next year's Huskies' schedule is supposed to be filled with so many fowl teams on a pigeon-feed poor slate of opponents according to some, maybe the pre-game analysis before every contest should just be, "Tastes like chicken."
