yeps. basically can't do anything anymore.
can't even play basketball with my daughter.
i suck it up and go to work because i have to but not much else.
There has to be an answer to your problem. Don't give up.

Yes, I've recently had great success extending time between clusters, reducing the severity of attacks and reducing the length of the cycle. And all of the success came from visiting online forums with fellow sufferers. All of the doctors I saw over the 30 years i have dealing with it have not helped at all.

If your brother has not tried it yet, hyperventilating pure oxygen is the most helpful tool in the arsenal. My doc couldn't get me a script so i use welding O2. I can't discuss in this forum the other alt therapies, but he could PM me or he should at least visit clusterbusters.com

It is very common for sufferers to have clusters less frequently but with more intensity as they get older.

I've read Shrooms are very helpful to some sufferers.

As a PT who specializes in Pelvic/hip Dysfunction there is no way I or anybody else can tell you with certainty what's wrong with you especially without examining you. Sure Psoas issues can sometimes refer pain to the testicles but it's not common. Often if testicular pain is present with psoas issues it often accompanies pubic symphysis/SI joint alignment issues which by the way don't show up on MRI. However after everything you have gone through your absolutely need to see a MD specializing in this area. Fortunately one of the top guys in the world in this area is nearby - Dr. Meyers. What part of CT do you live in?

Hey saehusky can't resist busting your stones a little bit here all in fun. It looks like you've learned a little bit over the past ten years. I recall back when no one could figure out what was wrong with oakafors back you were certain it was a si joint problem. Your diagnosis from the discussion was based upon seeing on the television the way in which he fell. No examination but you were positive you knew more than all the specialists who actually examined him and read the imaging reports. He ended up having a fracture if I recall. It's good now that you realize none of us know exactly what's wrong with him without examining him. Right now it's all conjecture based upon symptoms. It does appear you still really like SI joint problems. That may even possibly be the problem. Again just busting chops here. Hope your Pt career is going well

Thanks for the info. My brother suffers from cluster headaches and has for the past 8 years. Usually only gets them when the seasons change from fall to winter and winter to spring. No doctor or specialist has ever been able to help him. He was prescribed a few medications but he doesn't think they work so he doesn't take them any longer. The amount of pain those headaches cause is unbelievable. One specialist he saw told him that their sister suffers from them and has given birth to 3 kids. Said she says its infinitely worse than childbirth.

I hope someone finally figures out some sort of relief so you guys don't have to suffer through these headaches.

I thought I was the only one who remembered that.

I'm guessing your brother is in his 20's or early 30's. That's what mine were like then. Twice a year. Change of seasons. Daylight savings. Schedule disruption. Usually two cycles per year. They only lasted a couple of weeks. 2 maybe 3 really bad headaches per cycle. Excruciatingly painful. But they would come and go like flipping a light switch. I thought it was horrible then but by my late 30's it got much, much worse. Your brother should definitely keep his guard up.

I dont mean to hijack the thread but its kind of related. I can not imagine anything more painful than a cluster headache. And there is nothing there. Some capillaries next to a super sensitive nerve constrict and have some backed up blood flow.

To give people some idea how bad it is: I had a vasectomy and ended up getting an infection from the procedure. Two days after I went to bed in discomfort with a little swelling and woke the next morning with one testicle the size of a small grapefruit. The pain was like having an NFL punter kick me in the sack over and over milliseconds apart. That was a walk in the park compared to a cluster.

One thing people can take away from this thread--do NOT pick up heavy(or somewhat heavy) items from awkward angles. If you lift weights you should always wear a belt and lift the weight the right way using good form. You always want to use your legs and buttocks keeping pressure off of your back. One bad lift at 30-40-50 years old etc.. this man has unfortunately seen what can happen. I see kids at the Y doing dead-lifts with no belt and cringe. Yes a 20 year old for the most part CAN get away with it although it's likely they are building the foundation for injury in the future. Pay the local kid to pick up your stuff over 30-40 pounds or do the shoveling etc.. Don't put your back at risk as you can hurt your self in so many ways. Thanks for the OP sharing this--I'm sure he will be ok over time as well with proper care including being shown professionally how to stretch the important muscles throughout his body building core strength weight control good healthy eating rest and a positive attitude.

I've had unexplained headaches, blurred vision, neck pain and eye pain for the past 5 years. Every test under the sun has failed to show the cause. I feel for all you poor bastards going through the frustrating process of figuring out what's going on with your bodies.

You aren't fooling anybody. Aren't you are middle aged man tooling around Tahoe in a boat with a bunch of young ladies and a lot of alcohol? Whenever I have a threesome with a 25 year old young lady and my buddy Jack Daniels, I get blurred vision, headaches and back problems too!

I passed along the website you posted to my brother and you were very close to his age range.

He one described the pain to me as "being stabbed in the back if the eye million times a minute". He has had to repair walls in his house countless times from punching holes in them while going through the episodes cause it's so painful and there nothing you can do but wait for them to go away. They truly are debilitating. The screaming from pain is blood curdling. A passerby might think someone is being murdered.

Maybe I'll get him an O2 tank for Christmas

It appears that we are an ill and injured bunch, but we take the wheelchair, not the stretcher, and that's why we're Husky fans.
