To keep my mind on other things and keep me sane in the off season I have been watching our new neighbors the foxes (not Alan Fox my old roommate from college). Mama had her litter - at least 4 kits and I have been getting some good pix of them. Then last night dad showed up. Unfortunately the light was fading fast but for 15 minutes or so they were grooming each other. Here is one of the two of them posing:

Is that one on the right mangy?

I don't think so. they were grooming each other but nothing that would make me think he had mange. That's a pretty terrible pia for animals like foxes

Foxes' coats change in the winter. It's possible the one became darker and hasn't gotten its full summer coat yet. Although the full tail kind of belies that.

I've seen some foxes this spring. Also, curiously, I've been seeing three cormorants on a little pond. I don't think I've ever seen cormorants this far inland in the mid-Atlantic.

In my backyard. There were a pair. I fed them cereal and oranges. They ate it and lounged in the sun.
