Yahoo also reported the NCAA asked the golfer to pay the school $20, which they said was the value of the water and hose.

Wow.... just wow....

I would think that one could have argued for $7-10 bucks as that is closer to the value at a car wash. Jeez, Auburn buys a player, UNC has phony classes, Miami accepts cash and prizes from slimebuckets, and the NCAA can't figure out what to do. But a kid washes her car and by golly they are on the case!

The NCAA is a joke. They make up rules, violations and punishments as they go along. Often without any proof at all. The entire organization needs an overhaul.

Get a grip.!!!!!! The NCAA had to act because the issue was SELF REPORTED.They made the penalty commensurate with the infraction.. Had to impose penalty. Hate them as much as everyone but they are blameless this time.

Favorite commercial recently by The NCAA...

Pay strong attention to the very last sentence...
"Just know we're always there for student athletes"... what a crock!

1964 is right - the school was idiotic for reporting the car wash as a violation.

It's like walking into a police station and showing them a cell phone video of you jaywalking.

Maybe the NCAA let her keep the hose. Kind of like getting to keep the glass when you buy a fancy, overpriced drink. Rather symbolic too, no?

It was stupid for the school to report it, but even though they did and something had to be done, that something should have been based on some freakin' common sense, something the NCAA is totally devoid of. This particular student-athlete could take a one hour long shower every day she lives on campus if she wants to, yet using water to wash her car is an extra benefit? What, was it an athletic dept. only garden hose? Couldn't any other student on campus have turned the spigot on and washed their car for free as well? University owned water is used by everybody on the university campus, isn't it?

This penalty is totally ludicrous and yet another sad example of an organization that has ceased to care about anything other than the almighty dollar and counting how many angels can dance on the head of a pin, which is about the same size as Mark Emmert's pathetic brain.

If they made her pay for the hose as well as the water (any idea how much tap water you get for $20?), they better have let her keep it. Of course, she can't hook it up to water anymore.
