To me this guys early years showed one of the great pop singers of all time.

He really was quite unique in that he was one of the first to use a microphone, and he instinctively knew how to use it to enhance his style. He grew up performing in a jazz band which affected his timing and diction , and was the first successful bel canto baritone. He had limited range, but understood how to make it work. A bit too old for my age group, but I have to admit his influence.
