Bill Gutheridge coached 3 seasons; he reached the NCAAs each year, and made the Final Four twice.
He probably shouldn't have made the tournament in 2000--but that team got hot and made the Final Four regardless.
Syracuse makes the Final Four once a decade (1975, 1987, 1996, 2003, 2013), so Gutheridge would be a huge step up.
My point is that Gutheridge accomplished in 3 years what it typically takes Syracuse two decades to accomplish.but in the end, guthridge was exposed, he had talent, but UNC was never the program it was for many years after dean smith retired, then matt doherty managed to drag the program down further, if that was even possible, my point is that I don't believe hopkins is the guy to keep the program going, they should have waited.
