How many barroom fights have the guys in this thread seen, up close and personal? I've seen about 100. Maybe 200. Part of owning a bar in a rough town, unfortunately. Most barroom fights don't involve stand up fist throwing. One guy gets in the face of the other. The other talks smack. The one guy talks smack. Then, boom, they're on top of each other, on the floor. Number of bar fights that I've seen where guys are standing after 10 seconds - none. I've got guys who come in who are 6/2, 220 and who don't feel any pain. In a crowded bar on a Friday night a tiny guy like Floyd wouldn't be able to run away. He sure as hell wouldn't be able to dance around and avoid some of the beasts who I see every weekend from grabbing him, which is when he's finished. Lot harder to punch a guy when he's got a handful of shirt in one hand, throwing punches with the other, and trying to chew your face off with the seven teeth he has left and he outweighs you by 70 pounds. You guys are picturing a bar fight where the guys are standing up and moving and so on. That's not how it works, unless you're watching a Patrick Swazy movie. Floyd is small and defensive and would get handled - easily. There's a reason there are weight classes. And I'm not an "MMA fan," in the sense that I watch it religiously or I don't like boxing. Loved boxing for a lot of years. Grew up on Hagler/Hearns, tail end of Ali, early Tyson, saw Boom Boom Mancini. I lost interest in boxing after Tyson - the russians just aren't compelling, and with the Internet there's just more to do. Enjoy MMA from time to time, but I'm by no means a junkie or a fan boy. That said, equivalent MMA vs. Boxers in a bar fight and the MMA guys have a huge advantage. 99% of the guys I separate during a fight are on the ground.
