"A great, great game for the Lady Vols!" This is one of the puzzles of the Tenn fans. Not all wins are true wins. If you are still playing the same crappy brand of ball the alarm bell should still be ringing.

Bingo. I guess according to them, any win, even against the Sisters of the Poor, a school with 25 students, half of who are on the hoops team, would still be a good win.

Let's be honest - Vandy is not a great team. Very average. Yet with a minute to go, Vandy was within 3. Just a fun year all around for WCBB. UCONN is doing great, Tennessee is in the toilet, and the rest of WCBB has lots of parity...

This was essentially an even game except that Vandy was unable to inbound the ball for a small stretch in the first quarter. In fact, 14 of UT's first half points were off turnovers, most unforced. Of course the announcers (Paul Sunderland, Carolyn Peck) credited UT's swarming full court pressure defense, but it was due solely to the fact that Vanderbilt simply has no ball handlers, at all.
That any Vol fan could be happy with their performance speaks volumes about where the UT program is currently. Just 5 or 6 years ago, their fans would have been getting out the pitchforks, tar and feathers after such a lackluster effort against such a weak opponent. This is the same Vanderbilt that lost by 25 to Dayton, one of the worst teams in the Atlantic 10.

Unlike you I get no satisfaction seeing a once proud program slowly become another Delta State. As a Husky fan I remember how these two programs TOGETHER made women's basketball what it is today. Without their rivalry in my opinion there would be no WNBA, which I believe was created by the wave of popularity these two teams engendered. Slowly we've also watched that popularity decrease in the public's eye since that rivalry was discontinued by UT. Clearly the networks feel that popularity could be rekindled as witnessed by Doris Burke's recent remarks. I would LOVE to see these two teams at the top of the rankings. I would LOVE to see UCONN whip their asses in the finals again. And again. Wouldn't you? Instead we see UT playing an antiquated double post offensive system which places all the responsibility on their guards to bring up the ball (with little to no relief from full court pressure!), make the perfect pass to overrated post players into a crowded zone defense, create off the dribble against stacked 2-3 zones, shoot high percentages from the perimeter, create offense from their defense. On and on. Something Geno would never do. As stated in another post: How will we react when Geno retires and UCONN starts to struggle?

I you check the game thread on VolNation as well as many of the other threads, there wasn't a whole lot of optimism generated by this Vandy win - they definitely preferred it to another loss, but were under no illusions on the quality of play.
The one bright spot was Cooper who for about the first time this year shot well from the field.

More LaTech than Delta State. Delta State does nicely in the D2 world. LaTech had some pearls and then threw them before swine...

What game was it last year when Geno snapped at Kerrith at halftime that the team was not performing even close to the way that he expected that they should? . He was upset and simmering and his team was up by 19 as they left the court.

As Rocky points out, how your team is playing is important. Courtney dove on the ball in the wanning minutes the other night when we were up fifty plus. Gabby and Katie Lou were looking to find their cutting teammates even though the game was one where there were plenty of opportunities for individual scoring.

That's what we get from blowout wins. We get to watch our coaching staff working with the players to refine and develop the overall level of play. Waltzing through a "laugher" doesn't build for the future, and squeezing by while playing poorly is not something to celebrate.

Vol fans are happy and they should be, but watching Tennessee play it's obvious that they are still going to struggle against the best teams. They are very talented but they are still not much of a team.
