Great doc. I was a little young to appreciate the magnitude at the time. Phenomenal.

This documentary is . Unless and until they have an honest discussion about how a guy who has "HIV" or "AIDS" is not remotely sick in 20 years.

Magic is a special guy, he's done a bunch of good in his life. I always hated the Lakers but appreciated Magic, the second best player ever and the most unique talent I've ever seen, nobody brought more joy to the game of basketball.

If you are rich and healthy you do not die of AIDS anymore if you find out soon enough, the drugs are pretty good at keeping you alive. Getting it in Africa on the other hand is a death sentence.

Sorry but any documentary that shows the consequences of bad choices from a superstar is good for all to see. This doc alone will redirect many people from doing what Magic did. Its not only HIV but also all other STDs along with producing children all over the country. By the way many of us could have been like Magic, he just increased the odds.

Well I thought it was excellent. I always enjoyed watching Magic and Showtime back in the day. Magic was honest and forthright about his disease and the story was well told. It was gut wrenching watching that little girl cry when Magic visited with the schoolchildren. I was glad to see that she is now 27 and working as an AID activist.

He was the first guy at the time I had ever seen with HIV who gained weight.

At that point in the show I had a piece of dust in my eye, both eyes actually. And Larry Bird's reaction too...

The day Magic announced that he had HIV was one of those moments like 9/11, the Space Shuttle Challenger tragedy etc. that most will always remember where they were when they heard. I thought the show was excellent. The only negative for me (and a small one) were the portions where Magic read from prepared words instead of speaking naturally. It gave some parts a fake, infomercial feel. Magic's wife is a saint. Most wives would have removed 'little Magic' when they found out.

Yes, I demand an explanation from Magic and ESPN on why he is not dead.

They cannot pull the wool over my eyes - I have seen Philadelphia and I know how this is supposed to end. (With a Neal Young song and a poignant video.)

I agree that it was phenominal. It really addresses the issues that Magic faced. Thought the documentary continued the trend of great ESPN movies put out lately. I never realized how harshly people reacted to others with HIV. I was only 10 when he announced but it's amazing how far we've come with this disease.

I found it amazing how he just decided to go up and announce it and be done with it. Little did he know the ramifications. Also enjoyed Karl Malone continuing to look like a moron when he said he has no regrets on his comments. However, he did say that looking back it's amazing to see how much he's learned too.

I thought they addressed how there was a cocktail developed in 1996 that was very effective in managing the virus if it wasn't already onset. It certainly helps he had access to the best doctors and treatments available.

WTF? Like 9-11?

Are you freaking serious?

You forgot to include the JFK assassination and Pearl Harbor

And the post about you being 6' 5" and 260. I believe I was sitting on the toilet with a Droid in one hand and toilet paper in the other.

I was a huge laker fan and came of age playing ball during the 80s, but I sure don't remember where I was when I heard about Magic.

The first time I heard of HIV was a story about some poor teenager who got it in a transfusion, and when the town folk caught wind of it, they drained and bleached the town pool, which he had been in.

My understanding until Magic was that HIV infection resulted in death. Right about when Magic got diagnosed was when they were really starting to be able to suppress the virus.

Now, of course, you don't hear about HIV much at all. Least I don't.

As for deadrody, what the ---- man? This guy should be hung from the neck until dead right for that sort of ignorance, which is only rivaled in South Africa, where the head of the country said, about 10 years ago now, that the massive AIDS epidemic in his country (1 in 4 adults had it) was not caused by HIV.

Holy Christ.

I was 9 when Magic announced that he had gotten HIV and while I don't remember watching it, I vividly remember the mood of my father and how shocked he was. The fact that he embraced being the public spokesman for the disease despite the connotations that came with it at the time is great and I feel like there are a lot of people who are enjoying their lives while being HIV positive that owe at least some of their time to Magic.

When you think about it, if you had to pick a person that could pull off what he did, he would the choice. In incredible shape, wealthy, and one of the most positive people in the world. It was a great documentary.

I thought it was very good I was only 8 at the time of the announcement, when I first heard of AIDS I thought it was from a monkey in South Africa. Gary Vitti has been the Lakers trainer forever, hes from CT btw, he went to Southern.
