Burbank is absolutely the way to go. LAX is a traffic jam 24/7, John Wayne and LGB means you're stuck on the 405 or 5 for a relatively long time, another 24/7 traffic jam, plus both are far from downtown and all are REALLY far from Palmdale. I mean, REALLY freaking far. At least going to Burbank, you avoid a lot of traffic, don't have to take the 101, 405, go over the hills, or go near downtown to go Palmdale -> Burbank. No one should ever have to fly in or out of LAX unless they're forced to, or are just connecting. Place is an absolute nightmare.

That's a gross exaggeration (other than the note about John Wayne). But maybe I'm used to the NYC airports and traffic.

Landed in Burbank today. You deplane and board on the Tarmac, but no weather problems are likely there. Tiny place.

My end result was Hollywood and it was faster to get there than it usually is from LAX. would use it again if I could get a direct flight.

The in n out in hollywood is absolutely mobbed all day and night, but is worth it.

Don't forget to hit up an in n out upon arrival.

There's an In and Out less than a 1/2 mile from the hotel where I'll be staying. And yes, I did check Google maps to see which of the hotels was closest.

I do not like LAX; but, it still beats all 3 NYC airports (EWR, LGA, JFK) and my personal pariah, Philly. Only advantage those 4 have over LAX is that they do have mass transit access.

Concur on Philly. What a dump.

And I am grateful that there is almost a 0% chance of me ever having to fly in to any of the NYC airports for the rest of my life.

There is a umami burger in the new international terminal at LAX too. Skipped it because the C class food on KE is pretty good and lunch should be shortly after take off.

The A380 is a really nice plane. Really nice.

I'm not a frequent traveler, but I flew through Philly a couple of years ago and it was great. I remember connecting there when I was a kid and it was a disaster, but I was very pleasantly surprised this time around.

My favorite airport is Palm Springs. They have a putting green with balls and clubs and the rental cars are right outside the door.

Barcelona sucks. In a month or so I'll b flying into several European airports I've never been to. Always exciting to see which one's are in the running for lousy design. BTW, both LAX and Burbank were/are shut down today for air traffic due to a computer glitch of some sort.

Looks like they found the "glitch".

U2, the Plane not the band.

NBC, citing unnamed sources, reported a U-2, a Cold War-era spy plane still in use by the U.S. military, passed through air space monitored by the Los Angeles Air Route Traffic Control Center and appears to have overloaded a computer system at the center.
Computers at the center began operations to prevent the U-2 from colliding with other aircraft, even though the U-2 was flying at an altitude of 60,000 feet and other airplanes passing through the region's air space were miles below, NBC reported.

Some loooong walk there though.

Yes, Heathrow will definitely allow you to exercise you legs before a trip across the pond or after landing from a trip.

We'll, after leaving LAX I connected through Korea, which is nice and ended up here is sweat my balls off Bangkok. BKK is an airport than can make you walk forever. Took ten minutes to get from the gate to immigration, where thankfully there was no line

We were at Heathrow a few days after the "liquids" scare through air travel into a nose dive. They were not prepared, had 2 out of 4 security lines open, took 2 hours to get to the head of the line. The guard decided my wife had something that he thought needed to be checked at the counter, which would have meant missing the flight home since we were already in touch and go territory with a very long walk to the gate. We thought he was wrong and talked him into letting the gate decide. We hustled a long way just made the gate which said there was no problem with what my wife was carrying.

In an earlier post I said I hated Barcelonas airport. I meant Madrid that requires walks from the gate every bit as bad as Heathrow and not very attractive.

Just flew through LAX yesterday on Delta, terminal 5. Place is a dump. They have huge birds flying through there and cramped spaces to accommodate. Yesterday I was in an area that they were deplaning loaded 767 and 77 at same time and then the people ready to board next flights. Mess. It's the only airport where I literally was denied access to the Skyclub because it exceeded capacity, and the Skyclub there is enormous.

I've only been there twice but John Wayne (SNA) is about as convenient as it gets if you have work in Irvine. It's as close to the main core of Irvine's offices as Brainard Field (not Bradley) is to downtown Hartford. There are lots of one-stop routes from Bradley to Dallas, Atlanta or Chicago and then to SNA, too.

Who works in Irvine? ;)

A few years back, I used to travel every other week for work when I lived in Boston. Connecting through Philly go so bad for me that I started to book a hotel room at the airport before I even heard of any flight delays because I knew it was a 50/50 shot I would get back to Boston.

Newark sucks, too. I remember coming back from Cancun with my wife on a Friday evening and was elated that there was only a 2 hour delay for our leg back to Boston. My wife was not so excited. The only goof thing about Newark now is that I live 35 miles from it so if I am stuck there, I go home.

LAX's ongoing renovations about to get "painful".

LAX officials began warning the public about the coming inconveniences that will stretch over the next few years and affect traffic around the terminals and passenger movements inside them.
"Now you're going to start to feel the pain," said Mary Grady, managing director of media and public relations at Los Angeles World Airports, the city agency that runs LAX. "Ultimately, it's work that has to be done to transform this airport."

I've flown into both numerous times and handsdown Burbank is easy in and out. Plus like mentioned you have a head start with Burbank. The problem will be direct flights which are far and few between. Have a great trip.

Just landed at LAX non-stop from Bradley. Typical, we landed 40 minutes ahead of schedule, but here we sit on the runway because our gate is occupied. Looks like planes headed to Big D have been delayed by tornados there.

I flew into LAX once and saw that I-110 and I-105 heading into LAX were at a dead stop with a several mile long back-up on each. Thought it was odd. Pulling out of the airport with my rental, Air Force One flew right over my head. That explained it all. Same happened to me in Miami once, except I was stuck this time because there was a ground stop at the airport for about 30 minutes. By the way, Miami is not much fun either.
