If you are near Hartford go to the guys at camera bar on asylum St. Extremely knowledgeable and gave me a nice deal on a camera last year.

I have absolutely no other knowledge on cameras to contribute though.

If your looking for a point and shoot, have a look at the Panasonic Lumix. There are a number of different styles of Lumix and after a few questions I'm sure the sales person can figure out the one that will suit your needs. If you use the different mood settings in the camera you can get some outstanding results. I hope that helps.
