Ok, since the theme of this off season has changed from last season's food threads (you fat bastards) to travel, I am planning a short visit to London to watch some football and generally mill about Town.

I am interested in recommendations for a neighborhood as a base of operations near an Underground station. Normally, I have no trouble figuring this out, but London appears to be a mishmash of sameness.

I'll take any other recommendations that people might have for hotels, restaurants, etc.

It's not the most convenient to an underground station, but I thought the Southwark neighborhood was the coolest and most interesting. Easy walk to Blackfriars and London Bridge trains, among others.

Otherwise, here is my London advice.

We stayed in Notting Hill, right before the movie came out.

Great lication, close to Hyde park. Get a pass for the tubes. Make sure you spend a few days at the British Museum, it's yuge.

London is a great city, but British cuisine is less than to be desired
