DANG! Those things look as evil as it gets....
Like the monsters from The Force Awakens.

The passing of the kidney stone is pretty much painless. However as the kidney stone travels from the kidney down to the bladder through the small ureters is about as painful as you could imagine. Think this!!!
PronHub - the gift that keeps on giving.
These sound horrible. How can I prevent this from every happening to me?
I could google it or ask my doctor, but I prefer asking you guys.
I have had them 3 times, but the last time was about 40 years ago.Don't worry, this time I went to the ER first. Some CT scans revealed kidney stones and I'm just wondering if anyone else here has dealt with them and what level of misery I'm in for when they pass.

I've had a couple heart attacks. Kidney stones were worse.
I've had gangrene of the scrotum. Kidney Stones were worse.
Passing them - as in pissing them out - is nothing but relief. It getting them from the kidney to the bladder that kills you.
My wife has had them twice in recent years. She said it was far worse than childbirth. Both times, she had to get lithotripsy to break up the stone.
Calling BS on that. Had them 3 times -- all in that portion of my life when 3 to 4 times a week would have been a slow week. Passed them all, but not without great pain getting them from kidney to bladder.

How long is that journey from the kidney through the ureter?Drink water. Three+ liters a day.
Personally, "passing" the stones is no big deal. The excruciating pain is when the stone(s) are in the kidney and ureter. A stone smaller than a bb feels like a pumpkin wrapped in razor wire.
Save the stone(s) and bring them to your doctor. If you're lucky, they'll be uric acid stones - there are medications that'll lower blood uric acid levels. If the stone(s) is uric acid, it may help to drink lemonade instead of water - the potassium citrate in the lemonade supposedly helps dissolve the stones. Make it diet lemonade if weight is a problem.

Stuck near the lower end of the ureter, according to the CT scan. The pain is George Mason level.
That's a good thing. They can just reach up and get it.
but removing stent was world class pain but only lasted a few seconds.
So now I know what the surgeon meant as I was going under when he said “We need the extra small”. But it still had an eye hook on one end which he failed to mention until after he had pulled it out the next week, saying the usual “You may feel a little pinch” just before I cried for my mommyI guess that would depend on the ... ummmm .... length of stent needed.
Yes, only if they are found in Maryland.?????
Is Kidney Stone related to Diamond???
I stopped reading at "gangrene of the scrotum".I have had them 3 times, but the last time was about 40 years ago.

The fall of '76 was not a good one for me. I was in the hospital on a refrigerated mattress with a suction tube jammed into a gash in my side and the jewels hanging out on their own, with no bag to call home. From Labor Day until the day after Thanksgiving. Or it may have been '77. I've been trying to forget ever since.I stopped reading at "gangrene of the scrotum".
I'm a veteran, have dealt with them for seven years now. Had my first attack at 3am seven years ago. Second attack last September. Each time the worst pain by far comes when the stone first tries to make it's way out of your kidney and into the ureter, once it reaches the bladder the pain eases and gets several orders of magnitude less intense as it travels into the urethra and out. Just before you pass it you will probably feel a pinch or momentary sharp pain, but nothing compared to when the stone makes it's way down the ureter. First attack I coated the walls in St V's ER with so much vomit, just from the intense pain, would have put Linda Blair to shame. Have had Lithotripsy twice. If you need a good urologist, Larry Muldoon in Fairfield is the best.Don't worry, this time I went to the ER first. Muldoon is our urologist. He did my wife's lithotripsies as well.Have had Lithotripsy twice. If you need a good urologist, Larry Muldoon in Fairfield is the best.
I know I shouldn't ask this but curiosity is a terrible thing, "gangrene of the scrotum"? What the H?I have had them 3 times, but the last time was about 40 years ago.
