Reports are that it was Jovan Belcher, a linebacker from University of Maine.

You would think that the NFL has to at least postpone the game on Sunday after this!

One might think so, but a Charlotte Observer report indicates the NFL told the Carolina "Panthers ... to travel to Kansas City as scheduled" today".
