Is going to play for the US. I don't watch a ton of Bayern or, for that matter, the USMNT. For those who do, is this a big deal in the short term or no?

Depending on FIFA's speed on accepting/processing this request, he has a decent chance of making this year's world cup team at the age of 18. For the US, this is a pretty big deal.

He 's considered one of the top prospects in the entire world. I saw one ranking where he was #20 among 17-21 year olds, which is saying a lot. Top quality.

He does not play for Bayern yet, but he is 18 and they gave him a contract.

What this means is that Brek Shea will not be on the World Cup team since it is likely Green can give you the exact same thing, and actually has some soccer skills.

Has to play in a FIFA event. Friendlies don't count. There is also the matter of processing the paperwork. No guarantee that happens in 3 months. There is also the matter of him making the squad. I see him taking the 23rd spot and playing very little in Brazil. Truth is that most of the playing time outside of card suspensions or injury is already spoken for. Late sub cameos and a few battles based on form are all that are really available. It does potentially answer the question of who 1replaces Donovan in the 2018 cycle. The article has it right in one respect, this is really the first player to choose the US over a major soccer nation that had any interest in keeping him. The anti-Rossi so to speak.

Incorrect. He's already filed his one-time switch, so as of today he is no longer eligible to play for Germany.

It will happen within three weeks.

This is where we agree.

This kid is a stud. He is lighting it up for Bayern's second division team, which is in the 4th tier German league. Their academy does an excellent job of developing prospects technically, but also tactically. Don't be surprised if you see him loaned out to a medium-level team like Nuremburg or Hamburg to get seasoning, and then hit the ground running for Bayern's first team by he's 20.

If he gets the call up this year, he won't be a huge factor impact wise, but he will be taking a spot from the likes of garbage such as Wondo or Shea. This is a model of all the European clubs; they have their core team, and pick a few youngsters to tag along and get a feel for the environment and whatnot. England did it with Walcott a while back, Germany with Kroos, Swiss with Shaquiri. At 18, he will be one of or the youngest, but I like the direction that could take.

4 minutes in a game that meant nothing isnt playing. that is making an appearance. If he gets into a league game at some point before the end of the year then we are onto something.

If it's as fast as Aron Johanssen's (sic?) one time switch, he will be eligible for the Mexico game. The 15 day time is eerily similar to Aron's and he was processed in time for his friendly against...Slovenia I think. Green is going to go the World Cup Team. I think Klinnsman promised both them a roster spot. He is the World Wide Wes of USMNT.

Green will get some burn in the Mexico game next month. No chance he isnt on the Brazil 23 after all the effort Klinsmann went through to recruit him. From his perspective, he'll get a bunch of shots at a World Cup with USA. With Germany, the reality is he's at least a cycle away from having a shot, and he still has to compete with guys who will be starting on Champions League squads. Bayern Munich thinks highly of him, and hopefully he can be a late addition that makes an impact. In all likelyhood he probably takes up the 23rd spot on the roster. If he impresses between now and Brazil, maybe he can become a late game super-sub.
