I didn't really see any of the last batch of Star Wars movies and I don't have a clue who J.J. Abrams is, but can you imagine the pressure that's on this dude?

It's 2013.

All he has to do in the next two years is put out a movie that makes over a billion dollars, provides Disney with enough juice to put out 2,000 different action figures, at least four amusement park rides and two more sequels and avoid bringing the wrath of a zillion Star Wars fans down on his own head.

He should probably plan on working this weekend.

I don't understand why Lucas can't write a whole new storyline ,based on the same universe , detached from those old tired characters . Jmo

Abrams is a pretty talented guy. Co creator of Lost and Alias. He directed the Star Trek reboot (which was actually pretty good). He was also involved with the move Super 8 with Speilberg - that was a good movie too. Definitely a sci fi/action genre guy but he has been attached to some very successful stuff. Definitely an A-list director/producer in Hollywood these days.

It's bizarre that the same guy is rebooting both Star Trek and Star Wars (nerd war!), but I thought he did a great job with Star Trek. You can never make the super nerds happy, but as a casual Star Trek fan, I thought it was great. Episodes 1-3 were not good (3 was OK and the last 10 minutes of 2 were fun, but 1 and most of 2 were disasters and "NOOOOOOOO" almost ruined 3); Abrams simply can't do worse. It's impossible for him to do worse. There's some pressure, of course, but hardly the amount that Fishy puts on him. The movies will make a lot of money whether they're crappy or not.

Lucas lost the attraction of the earlier films by going high tech instead of character development.

Star Trek struggled to put out a good movie. JJ nailed the Star Trek movie in addition to creating a new universe of possibilities. Hopefully he can do the same for Star Wars.

I still have fond memories of seeing that first Star Wars movie when it came out! The opening scenes were definitely powerful for their time.

Although not it works, I would love to see a 'reimagined' Star Wars universe with the simple clear themes of the first movie. Abrams is the guy to do it. I'd probably watch a Serah Williams movie done by him that introduces new characters and problems.
