Probably not on your radar here, but there have been 2 Kingma sisters that played at UW. Older sister Kristi was a star as an upperclassmen. Younger sis Kelli has been a little used role player heading into her Sr. year.

There have been a handful of sister duos at UW. Giuliana (the younger one) was definitely the better of the Mendiola sisters. Kellie and Kristen O'Neil is too close to call on which was better.

Brittney McPhee is older (barely) than her twin Jordan, definitely the better player of the two.

Jackie is older, played at St. Mary's. Was on staff at UW at one point, not sure what she's up to now.

I think Michelle Plouffe (Utah) was better than her older sister Andrea (Washington).

Kelsey must be the best hooper in the Plum family, but all of her siblings played some sport in college. One of her older sisters, Lauren, was a darn good setter on the volleyball team at Oregon and helped lead them to a National runner up finish one season.

The Mabrey sisters. Too early to call, as I don't think the youngest is in college yet.

Cutting to the heart of the question - why do we have this impression?
Having two daughters, and having coached female youth sports (primarily softball, but a little basketball and soccer), I do agree that younger sister has an advantage. Doesn't mean that the younger sister has the talent, physical ability or interest, but, she has a big advantage in exposure.
Younger sister has sat in the gym, on the stands or sidelines, watching the older sister - absorbing the game, the skills, the excitement and energy. She's tried to emulate her big sister, maybe even practicing free throws or throwing a softball around with her, kicking the soccer ball.
She's absorbed the rules and customs of the game, some of the expectations, how the coaches behave and the officials "see things".

Not always true, of course - circumstances may intervene, or little sister may instinctively resist the older sibling's path. But, there is a big advantage in potential exposure, at a younger age, if little sister wants to take advantage of it.
