And yet that's not what played out when the Big12 came calling. BYU might feel that they are well positioned for a PAC12 expansion, but they also know that there is no real driving force for that to happen. And that's why there was so much excitement on their part when the Big12 came calling. Independence is a rough road for folks not named "Notre Dame"...

Yep......can be as "well positioned" as one wants, but if someone else comes a calling, it won't take long to go that direction........

No one is giving this conference an extra dollar because we add Boise.

I laughed out loud at the idea that Boise has a national following.

You can’t even get cell service on their campus - their television market is worth roughly nothing and they’re one bad hire away from being Idaho.

That's because you and others have bought into the doom and gloom P5 propaganda. The P6 concept that Mike Aresco has been pushing has merit. A conference that includes the best G5 teams has the potential to be talked in the same light as the rest of the P5. I have been promoting UCONN for years and especially after the Big East break up but admit all the negativity and losing has taken it's toll on me too! Aresco has to pull out all the stops in order for the American Conference to have real success.

Boise State Broncos vs. BYU Cougars Preview and Prediction

The campuses are only separated by 380 miles, yet this annual match up didn’t get rolling until BYU became an independent and Boise State established themselves as a national brand during their days in the WAC before ultimately moving to the Mountain West. That path sounds familiar to BYU fans.

The Cougars (1-4) and the Broncos (2-2) have a lot of similarities in the fact that the last 40 years of college football have consisted of these programs in different decades pushing the power structure to try and create opportunity. Now the powers that be view these two as outsiders, and the on-field product this season for both teams would say that is a fair assessment. Both teams can ignite some sparks into their 2017 campaigns with a win on Friday night in front of a nationally televised audience.

“If you go past the Rocky Mountains,
they know who Boise State is and they don’t know who the rest of us are,” San Diego State head coach Rocky Long said. “So that makes sense. Those people associate our league with Boise because of history.”

“They’re (Boise) a very good football team,” he said. “They had a bad break against Washington State
or they would be ranked ahead of us because of the name recognition.”

No question that Boise and BYU's luster has diminished over the last several years. Aresco added Wichita to bolster
AAC basketball. Up until they lost to Oklahoma they were third ranked in the country. Boise State or a BYU in football would
strengthen the American but the remaining issues like travel and what to do with other sports still remain. Glad I gave you a good laugh. Merry Christmas!
