this is wayyyyyy OT but has anyone ever had their iphone power button get stuck? Am I pretty much screwed? Do i have to replace the whole phone or is there some other way?

Happened to me on my 4, bought a kit online and fixed it myself. It was a long and arduous process as the screws are tiny. I think I found the kit on amazon? FWIW if it happened to my 5 I would bring it to Apple and pay the extra money to have them do it instead.

Worst case scenario, you can always use the accessibility features to lock your phone and take screenshots. Just go to settings > general > accessibility and turn on AssistiveTouch. This will put a little dot on your screen that, when clicked, will allow you to go into a "Device" menu and lock your screen.

Mine has gotten stuck too.. For me it actually came back to life a little bit but still not fully. If you got the phone a year ago or less they will replace it at apple. Otherwise you'll have to pay something like $150 or $200. Ridiculous!

I learned long ago to pay the $7/month for the insurance. The peace of mind alone is worth it.

My button is often temperamental but a hard reset usually fixes it.
